Chapter 41
Beneath my skin, my veins filled with blood felt hot and bubbly. My wolf’s anger boiled within me. All rational thoughts were soon being tainted in my mind. I closed my eyes tightly, trying to settle the wrath within. My fists clenched feeling the urge to shift.
My eyes opened and looked down at the ring on my index finger of my right hand. The very same ring that contained the beast within me, preventing it from escaping and unleashing my anger. The same ring that I had possessed for over six hundred years. Right now that ring needed to come off and right in the moment I had to give in to my primal instincts.
“You three take Valerie home and stay with her until I come back!” I barked out.
They all looked at me confused.!
“I need to shift,” I growled out, the sound ripping right through my chest.
Valerie’s POV
“Can I get you anything Valerie, some tea, water?” Dean asked as we followed Elijah and Adam into Alaric’s house.
“I’m alright, thank you,” I replied, following as they entered the lounge.
I quickly took a seat on one of the expensive–looking sofas. It was the first time I had sat in the lounge, and it was the first time I was alone with three males.
I didn’t mind Dean, he was kind to me and proved that he was purely looking out for me and doing his job. The Beta and Gamma were a completely different story, they appeared as if they did not like me but only tolerated me.
The three males stood awkwardly near me, it felt strange and also uncomfortable as they hovered over me. I wasn’t much of a talker and that just made the atmosphere even more uncomfortable.
“Does anyone know how to work the TV?” I asked timidly, gesturing to the huge flatscreen. on the wall opposite me. The silence needed to be broken and if they weren’t going to say anything, it was down to me,
“Do you not want to eat something first and then take the painkillers?” Adam asked, holding the small paper bag that Doctor Harvey had given me.
Out of mention of the word pain, my hand flew up to touch my bruised neck. I could feel slight indentations of the vampire’s fingernails. He had gripped my throat so tightly, leaving small indents as well as bruising marks of his hand.
I took in a shaky breath, wincing as my throat stung slightly.
“Valerie?” Adam said, I looked up and saw three pairs of eyes watching me cautiously.
“Um yeah that’s a good idea,” I murmured softly, as I started to stand up.
“Sit down,” Elijah ordered. “We’ll bring you something.”
I sat back down, widening my eyes in shock, the beta was going to make me something to
eat?
“I don’t think there’s much food in the kitchen,” I said, remembering that there was only
muesli in the house.
“Alpha had someone bring groceries whilst you were out this morning,” Adam said.
Elijah and Adam left the lounge and Dean grabbed the TV remote and soon the TV was on. Deán grabbed a blanket from the side ottoman that opened up and chucked it to me. It was soft and grey with a furry texture. I gasped slightly, was this a real animals fur?
“Dean!” I yelped, shoving the blanket away from me.
He looked at me strangely, evening the blanket. “What?”
“Is this an animals fur?” I whispered looking at the blanket sadly.
Dean blinked in disbelief. “No Valerie… it’s just cotton or wool.”
Instantly, I felt stupid. How could I think that the blanket was an animals fur? We were all animals and Alaric wouldn’t have been that ironic to have real animal skin in his home.
I covered myself with the grey blanket, the softness of it relaxed me. Dean put on a random football game and sat down on a sofa opposite me.
Elijah and Adam returned back after a few minutes with a plate of food and a few gla*ses. Elijah handed me the plate and Adam placed a gla*s down on the coffee table in front of me.
“Wasn’t sure what you liked, it’s just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich,” Elijah said with a shrug. He turned to sit down next to Adam who had quickly averted his interest in the game that Dean was watching.
“Thank you,” I smiled. Elijah nodded his head. I could still feel his eyes on me as I bit into the PB&J. It was just an average sandwich but what made it special was that a Beta had made it for me.
I quickly finished eating and then grabbed the gla*s of juice. As soon as I grabbed the gla*s, Adam was on his feet and in front of me with two small pills. I blinked in shock at the fact that he was so quick just to give me medication, that I could’ve done myself.
“Er thanks,” I said, taking the pills from him. He lingered near me, probably making sure that I actually swallowed the painkillers. Once he realised I had taken them he went back to sit down and watch the game.
This all felt weird and strange having three males take care of me as if their lives depended on it. It just reminded me that my own mate wasn’t even here and I wasn’t even sure what he was doing. Back at the clinic, he didn’t even tell me where he was going, he just left.
