Chapter 40
I helped Valerie out of the car, carrying her to the entrance of the clinic. She made no move to show that she was capable of walking herself. I stormed into the clinic ignoring the questionable glances that were thrown my way. My eyes locked onto a middle–aged blonde female doctor, who was occupied with a pile of paperwork in her hands.
“Doctor Harvey, I need your a*sistance now!” I called walking past the front desk.
The female doctor’s eyes zeroed in on Valerie, dropping the paperwork onto the desk before sprinting to keep up with me as I walked to the nearest check–up room.
“I need a full examination on her, physically and psychiatrically,” I told her as she walked at my side.
“You three, wait outside!” I stated, turning my attention back Elijah, Adam and Dean.
I placed Valerie down on the check–up bed and lingered in one of the corners of the room.
“Hello, I’m doctor Harvey, who might you be?” The young female doctor asked my mate.
Valerie looked up at the doctor, frowning slightly.
“I’m Valerie,” she said. It was the first two words she had spoken in hours. I frowned at the fact that she could talk to a random stranger, but yet couldn’t even say one word to me. Her voice was slightly croaky and dry, I had suspected that she was in pain but yet she didn’t show it.
“That’s a very pretty name, can I ask how old you are, Valerie?”
“I’m nineteen,” she spoke hoarsely.
“Do you know who this man in the room with us is?” Doctor Harvey gestured towards me, keeping her eyes on Valerie the whole time.
What kind of F***ing question was that?
“Yeah…Alpha Alaric,” she whispered her purple eyes looking up at me. I could see every emotion behind her usual vibrant eyes that now looked dull and distraught.
“I don’t need to be psychiatrically a*sessed, I’m fine,” Valerie said, her voice shaky. She wasn’t telling Doctor Harvey, she was telling me.
My jaw locked and I narrowed my eyes at her. She may have thought she knew best but deep down I could see that she didn’t want to be fussed over.
“Continue with the a*sessment Doctor Harvey,” I said, ignoring Valerie’s claim, as if I hadn’t heard her. Her b*dy sighed lightly, and she shot me a look of sadness before looking back down.
Doctor Harvey looked at me for a brief second, swallowing hard and the nodded her head.
“How are you feeling?” She was prodded with another question by the doctor.
Valerie looked up and frowned hard. She clenched her jaw tightly and huffed before speaking. It was as if she had suddenly grown another defiant bone in her b*dy.
“As I said, I’m fine-”
“No, you’re not!” I snapped, causing her to flinch but she held her guard. “You are not fine!”
“I’m shocked obviously, but I am fine!” Valerie insisted in a sharp tone. I rolled my eyes at her and took a step closer to her.
“Stop with this childish behaviour, Valerie!” I said. “What you’ve witnessed and been subjected to, is enough to drive a person crazy!”
Valerie looked at me, tears threatening to fall. She didn’t say a word but nodded her in submission.
“Alpha Creed, can you leave please,” Doctor Harvey requested timidly, my attention turned to the female doctor.
“No.”
She stood in front of Valerie, attempting to block my view of her. It was a pointless attempt to ‘protect her patient‘ but nonetheless I had to appreciate the fact that she felt protective over Valerie.
The door swung open and Elijah stood in the threshold between the hallway and the room we were in.
“Alpha you’re needed,” he spoke lowly, making direct eye contact with me.
“You couldn’t knock?” I spat out, feeling irritated. “What’s the problem, I’m occupied.”
“It’s. important,” he urged, stepping away.
I growled in annoyance and turned to Doctor Harvey.
“Just a*sess her and give her any medication for the pain,” I ordered.
“Yes, Alpha,” she said bowing her head in respect.
I growled softly and turned away, not sparing Valerie a look.
Stepping out of the room, I closed the door behind me. I was met with three males in front
of me.
“What?” I asked, crossing my arms over my chest.
“You need to be more understanding to your mate,” Elijah said, narrowing his eyes.
“What the F*** do you mean?” I yelled out.
“Alpha, calm down.” Adam intervened, looking at me cautiously. “Eli doesn’t mean anything bad by his words, we just think that you shouldn’t be in the same room as Valerie right
now.”
I scoffed at his words.
“Why the hell not?” my words came out challenging, my inner wolf felt threatened by my beta and gamma who seemed to suddenly know all about mates. I uncrossed my arms, letting them fall to my side.
“Because you’re two seconds away from making her fear you even more than she already does!” Dean suddenly interjected.
I trusted the three males in front of me deeply but never had they ever called me out for
my actions or behaviour. It was refreshing just as it was disrespectful.
“You chose us as your loyal advisors. Listen to us and let us advise you that you need to calm down!” Elijah said, holding his hands up in a gesture for peace.
