Chapter 315 Victory
Gunner, standing nearby, whispered, “Jax, should we take a break?”
Jax quickly gestured to silence him and interrupted, “Silence while watching the game. Don’t you understand this basic rule?”
Gunner hushed immediately and shifted his gaze toward Gianna.
Gianna remained composed throughout, her face devoid of any expressions. Even though this chess match carried significant implications for her future, she couldn’t afford to show any signs of anxiety.
Gunner couldn’t help but scoff silently. “Keep pretending. Let’s see how long you can keep it up,” he thought.
“Oh, no, your move just took my Queen…” Jax hurriedly interjected, halting Gianna’s action. “I didn’t play that move well. I’d like to take it back,” he added.
“It’s all because of Gunner’s whispers, distracting me and interfering with my concentration. Ms. Lewis, would you allow me to take back a move?” Jax pleaded.
Gianna
t say a word, but her expression seemed to convey, “What do y
think?”
Jax was growing visibly uncomfortable. After playing chess for so many years, he couldn’t even follow this basic rule. He gritted his teeth and grumbled, “Alright, let’s not dwell on it.”
He then removed his piece from the board. What had been a closely matched game was now leaning in Gianna’s favor.
Beads of sweat appeared on Jax’s forehead. It was the first time he had encountered such a formidable opponent in years.
Gianna’s talent was indeed not to be underestimated.
Jax became increasingly focused on his moves. An hour elapsed, yet there was no decisive winner in sight. Both players exhibited impressive patience.
“Ms. Lewis, you’re the first person to earn my genuine admiration,” Jax conceded, mindful of his over twenty years of studying chess.
In any match against Jax, nob*dy had ever reached thirty moves. It was clear that Gianna’s chess skills surpa*sed his.
“Jax, you’re too modest,” Gianna said, “I learned this from my grandfather when I was young, and I rarely play chess in my spare time.”
Jax was speechless.
Gianna had casually defeated him, a seasoned chess player.
“Ms. Lewis, you’re being too humble,” Jax admitted,
Gianna made her final move, putting Jax in an inescapable checkmate. “Jax, it’s time to admit it.”
Jax’s hands trembled as he watched his pieces with no way out, his eyes wide open.
He had lost completely and utterly.
Gunner rushed forward in disbelief. “How is this even possible? Jax never lost!”
But the chessboard spoke for itself, and there was no denying the outcome.
Gianna shrugged, appearing relaxed. “Well, Jax, what do you say?”
Jax slowly closed his eyes, looking pained. Then, he pounded his ch*st and took a deep breath.
13:15
“I’ve lost.”
With his announcement, the previously noisy crowd fell into stunned silence. Even Gunner was left speechless.
Jax had lost, which meant he was now at Gianna’s mercy.
Everything Gunner had done before would come back to haunt him. He felt a chill run through his b*dy and was already sweaty.
“Jax! It’s just a chess game. It shouldn’t count for everything,” Gunner pleaded.
Jax rubbed his forehead and coldly looked at him. “A gentleman keeps his word. Ms. Lewis, I salute you.”
With that, Jax stood up, knelt before Gianna, and announced, “You’re the boss now. Please accept my bow.”
