Chapter 314 A Wager
“Ms. Lewis, what do
you
think?”
Gianna had a general sense of Jax’s intention and chose to address it directly. “Jax, we should. address the matter at hand.”
Jax reached out to begin resetting the chess pieces.
While rearranging the pieces, he spoke in a measured tone. “Shall we settle it with this chess match, a single game to determine everything?
“If you win, you can take him with you, and you’re free to do as you please. I won’t hold any grudges against you.
“If you lose, though, all our past conflicts are wiped clean, and we won’t hold any grudges,” Jax added.
The chess game seemed to carry the weight of a wager, which was Jax’s underlying message. Gunner, hearing Jax’s suggestion, visibly relaxed a bit. He knew that Jax was protecting him.
He knew that Jax was protecting him. After all, Jax’s chess skills were second to none in Silver City, and no one dared to challenge his supremacy.
If Gianna were to play chess against Jax, it would seem almost impossible for her to win.
“So, Ms. Lewis, do you accept?” Gunner couldn’t resist a taunt, hoping Gianna would take challenge. If she did, there would be no doubt that she would lose.

Gianna shook her head slightly, and for a moment, Jax thought she might decline. His expression turned serious, but Gianna continued, “Jax, these stakes seem rather modest, don’t you think?” Jax’s interest was piqued.
“Oh? What do you have in mind, Ms. Lewis?”
Gianna looked up, and her expression became serious. “How about we raise the stakes?”
Jax looked intrigued. “Go on.”
Gianna continued, “I think you’ve been in this position for quite some time, Jax. What if we make a more substantial wager? How about switching places?”
“Gianna, what the hell are you implying? Do you think you can mess with Jax? It will depend on whether we’re on board with that crap.” Gunner retorted, his tone filled with offense and disbelief. at Gianna’s audacity.
Gianna paid no heed to Gunner’s protests and focused on Jax. “If you lose, I’ll let you swap out the head honcho of your puny crew. How does that sound?” Gianna proposed, carrying an air of confidence.
Jax’s expression turned serious as he contemplated the implications. He seemed to be a*sessing the sincerity behind Gianna’s proposal.
Jax’s confidence in winning surged when he realized that Gianna was serious. “Ms. Lewis, if you win, I’ll step down from my position and willingly acknowledge you as the boss. I’ll be your right-hand man, following your lead without question. If you want me to head east, you won’t find me heading west. If you want me to handle one thing, I won’t be handling something entirely different,” Jax declared with unwavering determination.
His statement left everyone present stunned.
No one had expected Jax to place such a hefty bet.

A simple chess game now held the fate of their entire gang in its balance. As they marveled at his audacity, Jax added, “But if I win, besides resolving the feud between us, I want you, Gianna, to marry me.”
Instantly, the surrounding crowd erupted in cheers.
“Mighty Jax. Mighty Jax…” Everyone chanted.
Gianna’s expression turned dark, her fists clenched at her sides, as she silently vowed to teach these people a lesson they wouldn’t forget.
“So, Ms. Lewis, do you have the nerve?” Jax inquired.
After a momentary pause, Gianna answered, “Let’s get started.”
The crowd burst into cheers, and all eyes turned to the chessboard. Gianna took the white pieces, and Jax played with the black ones.
