Maverick replied quickly, “If Levi is the competition, there’s no shame in losing to him. Just remember, the issues from before still remain. If you two get back together, you should address those problems first.”

Gianna cut him off and responded, “Who said anything about getting back together with him?” A spark lit up in Maverick’s eyes, and he fixed his gaze intently on her.
Gianna, you don’t mean…
She shook her head slightly. “As of now, I have no intentions of rekindling things with him.” Maverick exclaimed, “So, you’re saying there’s still a chance for me?”
Gianna met his eyes.
Today, she intended to lay everything out in the open.
Mayerick, are you so sure that I’m your endgame?
Without hesitation, Maverick nodded. “One hundred percent. You’re the woman I want. I was blind before. I wouldn’t have refused if I had known that our families were pushing for a union with you. I just hope I still have a chance.”
Gianna lowered her gaze.
She had never anticipated Maverick’s unwavering determination. She once thought he was just caught up in the moment, fleeting passion.
Now, she couldn’t give him the response he desired.
She needed him to let go completely.
“Maverick, leave Empyrean Group. With your talents, you shouldn’t stay here. You deserve broader horizons. Even returning to Myers Group would be better.”
Maverick seemed to have anticipated her words.
“Gianna, are you asking me to leave?”
“It’s not about that. Staying in Empyrean Group is a waste of your talent.”
Yet Maverick seemed indifferent. “I don’t care. As long as I’m near you, that’s enough.”
“Maverick! I’ll sign off on your resignation, whether you agree or not. It’s settled.”
The atmosphere grew tense and silent.
They sat in quietude, neither speaking.
After what felt like an eternity, Maverick finally said, “Gianna, if that’s what you want, I’ll agree. But no matter what, my determination won’t waver just because I leave Empyrean Group.”
“I truly wish I could tie our fates together through a family union, even if it means having you without your heart. However, I don’t want to force you.”
His gaze was filled with her reflection.
“Gianna, if we can’t be lovers, let’s be friends. After all, we’ve known each other since childhood.”
