Chapter 12 Are You Afraid of Me?
Coleen smiled bitterly. Chad gritted his teeth, frustrated with this foolish woman. “Why did you come back then? Are you courting humiliation?” Coleen sighed and leaned against the wall. “What else was I supposed to do? Hiding in a place I don’t like for the rest of my life? But what have I done wrong to deserve that?” “Did you have anything to do with Diana’s death?” Coleen turned to look at the man who had offered to pay her to spend the night with him. If she couldn’t even trust Lyndon, she certainly wouldn’t trust Chad, either. “That’s in the past. Mr. Lynch, please don’t pry into it.” Chad suddenly grabbed her hand. “What concerns do you have now? I understand why you rejected me years ago, but your situation is different. Do you still think I’m not good enough for you? I’m not the same Chad as I was before. Have you ever considered coming to me for help?” “Mr. Lynch, I’m notorious in Serendale. I don’t think you would want to ruin your reputation for a woman, would you?” With a smile, Coleen broke her wrist free from him. “Thank you for recognizing me with a glance. It helps me confirm that this city is still the same one I know. But you should keep your distance from me in the future. I don’t want any man to be laughed at because of me. Mr. Lynch, you’re a smart man. You know what’s best for yourself.” Then, Coleen smiled at him and left. Chad watched her retreating figure, frowning. After Coleen, he had never loved another woman. Every woman he met afterward paled in comparison to her. It was not that those women weren’t good enough, but Coleen was too dazzling in his eyes. He clenched his fists. It had been so many years, but Lyndon still hadn’t learned to cherish her. There was no reason for Chad to back down anymore. After all, he was no longer the Chad of five years ago. He looked in the direction Coleen had left, determined to make her his this time. When Coleen returned to Starry Estate, it was already past 1 a.m. She reached her bedroom quietly and turned the doorknob. However, the door of Stanley’s room suddenly opened, startling her. Stanley, dressed in a robe, stood at the doorway, gazing at her. Coleen let go of the doorknob and gazed at him nervously. “Mr. Stanley, why are you still awake at this hour?” “I was waiting for you,” replied Stanley. “Waiting for me?” Coleen looked puzzled. “What do you need me for?” “Let’s talk in my room.” “Wait, Mr. Stanley…” Given what had happened last night, Coleen was hesitant about entering his room again. She continued, “Is it urgent? I forgot I have some matters to attend to. If it’s not very pressing, could we talk about it tomorrow?” “It’s about Xander. Whether to hear it now or tomorrow is up to you.” Coleen pursed her l*ps and nodded. Clutching the belt of her handbag, she stepped into his room. Stanley casually gestured to the couch. “Please have a seat.” Coleen sat down, expecting him to sit elsewhere. However, to her surprise, Stanley sat right next to her on the couch. The moment the couch sank under his weight, Coleen stood up nervously. However, Stanley grabbed her wrist and pressed her down on the couch. In a cold and intimidating tone, he demanded “What? Are you afraid of me?”
