Seeing that Hanzel also meant to refute, Pearl continued, “Hanzel, can you survive in the entertainment industry for around five years and still get to this position without a bit of strategy? If you don’t have any means in mind, can you get to where you are today?”
Hanzel knew the dirty side of the entertainment industry best. At this point, he shut his mouth and stopped defending Jenny.
Esther, who was less dramatic, asked anxiously, “Did Jenny steal my snack?”
“Well, at this point, we need evidence before we can say anything.” Pearl went silent.
The other three nodded in agreement and followed Pearl back to the set.
Pearl asked Esther to bring her snack and took a sniff. The scent was familiar, like… Mystleaf. This kind of plant was hard to come by, and it had a strong fragrance, which was rarely found in the country.
Seeing Pearl return, Clem approached her and reported, “Pearl, I checked the surveillance you asked for, but the corner where Esther was is a blind spot. There were no suspicious people either.”
Pearl’s expression brightened instantly. The culprit must be someone from the production team who knew the layout of the surveillance, ensuring they wouldn’t raise suspicion.
She walked up to the director and asked, “Director, did anyone leave the set when I was away?”
The director wasn’t in a good state of mind, but he shook his head. “Nope. The police sealed the entire set right after you left.”
“That’s good. Now I need your help to gather everyone.”
The director was puzzled. “Why?”
Pearl smirked. “Because I’ve found out who poisoned the snack”
After hearing this, the director immediately perked up and had his assistant call everyone over.
Pearl scanned the people in front of her and said coldly, “I’ll ask one last time. Who poisoned the snack? Step forward on your own or face the consequences when I find out.”
Everyone was trembling, but after a minute, no one came forward.
Pearl then commanded, “Alright, now, everyone, show me your hands.”
Everyone obediently extended their hands.
Most of the production team were girls with fair hands. Pearl went through the crowd one by one and soon stopped in front of a girl. “Smells good. What perfume are you wearing?”
“It’s peach blossom perfume. I don’t like floral scents,” the girl explained briefly.
“Oh.” Pearl was smiling a moment ago, then the next second she snapped, “It’s you! You’re the culprit!”
A moment of panic flashed in the girl’s eyes. “You’re slandering me! Why would you say it’s me?”
Pearl sniffed around her and continued, “The person who hired you told you that this poisonous herb would be very fragrant, but they didn’t tell you that the scent of this poison mixed with any perfume would have a strange smell, and it won’t wash off.”
The girl’s face instantly turned pale.
“Coincidentally, the peach blossom perfume you used today is best at stimulating that strange mixed scent. So… are you still trying to deny it?”
The other girls sniffed her. As Pearl said, there was indeed something else besides the peach blossom scent.
