Chapter 20
In the hospital, Emely was getting confused. It had been a few days since last Hudsonted her. It
was when he told her he would marry her, to be exact, and after that, no calls, no nothing. She was the one who had to call him, and although he still seemed as gentle as usual, the phone calls were always short.
He only left a caretaker for her. Did that bitch Cherise get in her way again, or maybe that old witch Agatha? Did he change his mind about marrying her because of those two vile women? If that was the case, she needed to do something about it. But what could she do when she was confined in this ward?
With frustration mounting in her heart and mind, she started biting her fingernails and thought of calling the mysterious man when suddenly the ward’s door was opened, and hope lit up in her eyes only to be extinguished as she saw two women entering instead of the man she wanted to see.
She quickly adjusted her emotions and offered them a smile, looking gentle and poised even if she was still wearing a hospital gown. Emely hated these two women, but they were essentials for her relationship with Hudson.
“Hello, Mrs. Amery and Polly,” she greeted them softly.
These two were the mother–daughter duo of the Amery family, who thought they were above. everyone else because of their last name. They loved looking down on people and didn’t even hold back when they wanted to cuss at someone, especially Polly, Hudson’s spoiled sister.
Dahlia Amery, Hudson’s mother, came from an upper–class family. Her goal was to marry into the elite class, and she achieved this using a malicious method to marry Hudson’s dad. She drugged him to sleep with her, and due to her luck, she got pregnant with Luis right away.
Hudson’s grandparents and many from the Elite class knew about it, but for the sake of the Amery family’s reputation, they had to let them get married. They wouldn’t let any of their grandchildren be a bastard, either. No matter how much they disliked Dahlia and her trap, they had to give the child a proper last name.
But, of course, it was a cold marriage. They slept in separate bedrooms. Hudson’s Dad, Nicholas Amery, didn’t care about Dahlia and only gave her the money she needed to flaunt her new wealth among the Elite ladies and tell them how much her husband loved her.
Even though he disliked his wife, they still appeared as a loving couple in front of everyone just for the sake of it. But Anthony really loved Luis. No matter what, he was still his own flesh and blood.
Dahlia hated Emely ever since she dated Luis back then. She knew Emely was like herself, but at least she came from an upper–class family, while Emely wasn’t. She wasn’t even beautiful, pretty at most. Dahlia knew she just pretended to be gentle and fragile but was actually a scheming woman.
Still, since Hudson had brought her to Luis‘ funeral and acted so gently toward her in front of everyone in the Elite class, she had to pretend to like her. What was worse, the news of Emely’s

miscarriage had started to spread.
While Hudson had kept his marriage and divorce with that orphan low–key, many people knew about it. They just didn’t dare to gossip for fear of offending the most influential family in their
country.
With all the gossip surrounding them, Dahlia had no choice but to make Hudson marry Emely. She knew no matter what, Emely couldn’t win against her. Maybe she could even use her to covet the whole Amery’s wealth,
“I’m sorry it took us so long to visit you, my dear,” Dahlia offered Emely a gentle smile, looking like a caring mother–in–law.
Emely was surprised to see Dahlia being so gentle toward her. Dahlia used to be mean to her, not even caring to cover her disdain. Did she change because of her miscarriage? Well, then, she could use Dahlia to make it easier for Hudson to marry her!
The two women – one older and one other younger didn’t know that they were scheming to use one another in their minds.
“It’s alright, Mrs. Amery. I know you must be busy,” Emely responded understandingly.
“You must feel miserable right now after losing your baby,” Dahlia embraced her briefly and fake apologized to her, “I’m sorry that Hudson’s ex–wife caused this.”
“It was my fault. I was the one who wasn’t careful enough,” Emely blamed herself.
“What are you talking about, Emely?” Polly suddenly chimed in, her eyes glaring with anger. “It was that bitch’s fault. She must have done it purposely because she was jealous of you!”
Emely bit her bottom lip. “It was my fault. I was the one who came between their Hudson didn’t bring me back…”

“Oh please,” Polly rolled her eyes. “Everyone knew Hudson never loved that gold–digger orphan. If Grandma didn’t like her, she wouldn’t have a chance with my brother.”
“Alright, alright,” Dahlia tried to stir the conversation to the topic she wanted. “I’ll make sure Hudson marries you. He had to take responsibility after impregnating you, after all.”
“Yeah!” Polly’s eyes lit up with joy. She also disliked Emely, but Emely was better than the orphan. Cherise, who was a disgrace as her brother’s wife. Emely was graceful and gentle. “We will make sure my brother will marry you.”
Polly was a simple–minded girl, easily manipulated. She couldn’t see that Emely was a scheming
woman.
“Actually, he already promised to marry me,” Emely’s cheeks flushed with shyness.
“Is that so?” Dahlia’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. She knew her second son had always been in love with Emely, but she never thought he would move this fast. But this was good. As long as

Emely could control Hudson, Dahlia could reap the benefits, too.
“Yes,” Emely replied, her checks still pinked from her shyness, and her eyes shone from joy, making her look like a delicate doll. “He promised to announce our engagement after I’ve recovered.”
“This is good news!” Polly squealed with joy. “I will have a sister–in–law who could go shopping with
me!”
She had never gone shopping with Cherise because she didn’t want to be embarrassed being together with a lowly orphan with a poor fashion sense, so she was happy to have a sister–in–law like Emely. Emely was a dancer who had a slender b*dy and knew how to dress fashionably. She wouldn’t embarrass Polly if they walked together side by side.
“Did the doctor say when you can be discharged?” Dahlia asked.
“I can be discharged anytime, but Hudson wants me to stay here longer,” Emely replied helplessly.
“My brother cares so much about you!” Polly grinned, making Emely blush. She thought the same thing, too.
Dahlia frowned and shook her head. “No, if you are allowed to be discharged, it’s better for you to recuperate at home. We have many servants and a private doctor who can care for you. And you won’t be bored staying alone in the hospital.”
At that exact moment, Hudson and Miles stood outside Emely’s ward and heard Dahlia’s words loud and clear.
Hudson opened the ward’s door, his face devoid of emotion, and passed by his mother without glancing at her. He hated his mother. His hatred for gold–diggers stemmed from the fact that he was conceived in the same way Luis was by his mother drugging his father.
He knew his mother was also a greedy gold–digger. She just wanted to be Mrs. Amery and gave heirs to his dad. She never cared for his brother or himself.
“Are you feeling better?” Hudson asked Emely, his voice softening a bit.
“Yes,” Emely nodded shyly.
“Hudson, Emely told us about your upcoming engagement,” Dahlia interrupted them, used by his son’s coldness. As long as he allowed her to spend money, she didn’t really care about anything else.
Hudson frowned and unknowingly turned icy again. He didn’t know why, but the notion of marrying her felt uncomfortable now.
Emely looked at his frosty demeanor and froze. Had he really changed his mind? But Hudson’s reply made her breathe in relief.
“I’ll marry her.” He had made, the promise, and he would keep it even if it felt unsettling.
“That’s great!” Dahlia voiced her approval. “Go and process Emely’s discharge. She’ll be staying

with us from now on.”
Hudson nodded, stood up, and left with Miles without saying another word. Once outside, he ordered Miles, “Take care of it. I’m going to see Keith.”
