Chapter 26 You’ll Be A Qualified Wife
“Thud!”
All of a sudden, a loud noise echoed from upstairs, causing Eileen to glance upward in concern. Reacting quickly, she sl*pped on her sl*ppers and hurriedly ascended the stairs, fearing that something might have happened to Eric.
Apprehensively, Eileen pushed open the door to the room where the noise came from, and anxiously asked, “Eric, are you alright?”
Inside, she found Eric lying on the bed, seemingly trying to pick up the shattered pieces of a bowl on the floor.
“Eric, let me handle this. Just lie down and rest,” Eileen said gently, rearranging the pillows. behind him. She fetched a broom from outside and cleaned up the mess on the floor, though some stains remained.
Squatting down, Eileen used a few tissues to wipe away the remaining stains.
Eric watched her from behind, squinting his eyes, feeling amazed.
He never would have believed it if he had not seen it himself – Eileen knew how to do the work of a servant, something she had never done before.
Eric could not understand what caused this change in Eileen. He wondered if something had happened to her.
However, he knew that the reason for Eileen’s transformation was because of him.
After graduating from university, she married Eric. During their eight years of marriage, his company flourished and established a strong presence in Hulbury. While everyone else. feared him, Eileen remained confined to their home, waiting for his return.
As a housewife, she had servants to a*sist her, but it left her feeling unfulfilled and restless. In
her
spare
time, she would often find herself lost in thought, yearning for something more.
meaningful.
So, she began to learn new things, such as cleaning the rooms, tending to the flowers, and even trying to fit into her own social circle. She invited her neighbor’s wife over for tea, visited the beauty salon, and even went to the gym. However, Eric did not take kindly to her newfound activities and asked her to stay home, fearing that she might embarra*s him.
Eileen understood that it was not that Eric disliked her going out, but rather, he was possessive of what he considered his own. As there was one time she went to the gym, a few good-looking men wanted to walk her home. How could Eric know even though she had met

Feeling like a caged bird, Eileen imprisoned herself within the confines of a defeated family, much like a neglected concubine in a palace. Her life was filled with waiting for Eric’s occasional attention, and the word that best described her previous existence was “sad”
Perhaps Eric’s a*surance that she would not leave him was the reason for her reckless behavior. He never cherished her love as he should have. In another world, Eric already knew she was dead. He must have been living happily with Sarah now!
Eileen cleaned the mess up, brought him another bowl of porridge, and sat by the bed. “Eric, this porridge isn’t this hot, be careful not to drop it again.”
“Thanks, Eileen!” Eric’s voice was hoarse, and he coughed a few more times
Eileen handed the porridge to him and felt that Eric’s palm was incredibly hot. Seeing that he was this weak, she was afraid that he would not be able to hold onto the bowl and Sharon might need to clean the mess up. So, Eileen decided to feed him.
“Eric… If you don’t mind, let me feed you!” Eileen offered gently.
“Why would I mind? My sister is sensible and knows that she loves her Eric,” Eric replied, affectionately ruffling her hair.
Eileen smiled softly and said, “Eric, if you’re sick, I should take care of you.”
With that, she brought a spoonful of porridge to his mouth, and Eric obediently opened his mouth.
Taking care of Eric had become a familiar routine for Eileen, and she tried not to let her emotions get in the way as long as he did not watch her too closely.
She only intended to finish feeding him and leave, but to her surprise, it took much longer. than expected.
Eric was eating slowly, accompanied by occasional coughs, leaving Eileen with no choice but to be patient.
Just when Eileen was feeling slightly anxious, Sharon returned, providing her a sense of relief.
“Mr. Eric, let’s take your temperature first!” Sharon said worriedly, taking the thermometer and measuring Eric’s fever, which showed 102 F
Sensing Eric’s discomfort, Sharon suggested, “You have a high fever, maybe we should take you to the hospital, Mr. Eric.”

Eric declined, “It’s troublesome to go to the hospital, I’ll just take medicine.”
Sharon, concerned for her employer’s well-being, warned, “Mr. Eric, make sure to tell Eileen if you can’t bear it. If Mr. Swan finds out, he might be upset.”
Seeing the concern in Sharon’s eyes for Eric, Eileen intervened, rea*suring her, “Sharon, don’t worry; you won’t get into trouble. Carry on with your duties; I’ll take care of him.”
Sharon added, “Alright then, please feed Mr. Eric his medicine after half an hour and make sure he stays hydrated.”
Eileen nodded, “Okay.”
Once Sharon left, Eileen continued to look after Eric, putting his laptop aside and ensuring he rested comfortably.
“What are you doing, Eileen?” Eric inquired.
“Eric, you’re sick, so you need to take a break from work for now. Lie down and rest,” Eileen insisted, guiding him to lie down and take a rest.
Protecting the back of his head with her hands and adjusting the pillow, Eileen performed these movements with such ease and grace, as if she had done them countless times before.
She adjusted his position, offering advice, “Sleep on just one pillow; using two at night can cause neck stiffness and isn’t good for your spine.”
Eric complimented her, saying, “Eileen, you’ll be a qualified wife when you get married. I’m starting to envy your future husband.”
Eileen found irony in his words, almost wanting to laugh. If she had not been rebirthed, she would have believed those words.
Eileen spoke softly, “Eric, when you’re with Vera, she’ll take care of you just as I do, and perhaps even better.”
“My sister is always the best.” Eric gazed at her with a pensive expression.
“Knowing that you think that way makes me very happy…”
She felt inadequate compared to Eric in many aspects.
After half an hour, Eileen gave Eric his medicine, made sure he drank enough water, and gently touched his forehead, which was sweaty. Eric soon drifted off to sleep.
Feeling somewhat restless, Eileen decided to retrieve a set of test papers from the adjacent room and returned to Eric’s room to work on them.

Meanwhile, Eric fell into a deep sleep and had a long dream.
In his dream, Eileen married him, but she treated him indifferently because he cheated.
He acted callously, disregarded her feelings, and hurt her.
Eventually, he divorced her, cruelly casting her out of the house because she could not get pregnant.
Later, when he realized his mistake and wanted to reconcile, he discovered that Eileen had already pa*sed away…
