It was half-past eight.
Eileen sat in the back seat, gazing gloomily at the scenery outside the window. “If I hadn’t left. so early, I wouldn’t have run into them.”
She had left early that day, hoping to get home and rest early.

They were planning to grab a late-night snack.

“You haven’t been home for such a long time. If I didn’t know you would finish school at the same time, we wouldn’t even have a chance to meet.”
After some thought, Vera suggested, “In that case, why don’t we go for some barbecue skewers?”
Eileen unintentionally met Eric’s deep gaze in the rearview mirror, and her heart fluttered as she quickly looked away. “Alright then.”
She had never eaten barbecue skewers before, so she didn’t know if they would upset her

Vera nodded, responding. “Alright.”
The person who called was Jasper.
Every time he called, he would ask, “When will you be back?”
“Hurry up! Remember to head back and rest after you finish eating. Around half-past ten, I’ll have Richard come pick you up.”
“Alright.” His end was very quiet, with the occasional sound of someone pa*sing by. She was familiar with this sound. He must be at a dinner he couldn’t turn down.
After hanging up the phone, Eileen turned around to see Eric standing outside the door, a cigarette in his hand. She nervously walked past him, ready to enter the shop, when suddenly, a strong arm grabbed her, pulling her into a dark alley where the streetlights. couldn’t reach.

Eric arrived shortly after. He told Vera that he had gone to buy a pack of cigarettes,
“But Eric, I thought you didn’t like smoking in the past,” Vera said.
“Ive grown fond of it now,” Eric replied.
Eileen couldn’t bear to stay in front of them for even half a minute.
