Yvette held her chin with both hands. “Mr. Snow, is this your attitude when asking for help? Don’t forget, you want me to lend a workbook to your sister! If you don’t accompany me, I won’t lend it to you. I’ll call the driver now to pick me up.”
“Suit yourself.” Eric stood up, ready to leave. He sounded a bit displeased.
Yvette panicked. She immediately sat down next to Eric, tightly clutching his arm, refusing to let him leave.
When threats didn’t work. Yvette’s demeanor softened. “Mr. Snow, can’t you just spend half a day with me? I’m all alone during New Year.”
She grabbed Eric’s arm, swaying it and acting cute. “Please, Eric!”
Yvette rarely called him by his name. Usually, she addressed him as “Mr. Snow” or “old man.”
He was around seven to eight years older than her and was indeed older.
As soon as Eileen arrived, she was taken to a place where the entire floor was filled with stalls. and food vendors. However, the environment wasn’t particularly pleasant.
The tables were littered with discarded plastic containers, and gnawed bones were strewn on the ground. A few stray dogs were darting about by the roadside.
In the air, apart from the delightful aroma of food and spices, there was a mix of other unpleasant smells.
However, the majority of the unpleasant smells were masked by the aroma of the barbecued skewers.
Stepping on a bone, Eileen looked down and felt disgusted, not knowing where to place her foot. “Elm, what kind of place is this? Why did you bring me here?”
“What a drama queen.” Elm reached out and grabbed her wrist, “Ms. Eileen, be careful not to let the crowd separate us.”
Elm led her through the food court and into an alley. After a while, they gradually left the crowd, and the area became quieter. Away from the crowded people, Eileen felt like she could breathe fresh air again.
They arrived at a black door that was wide open. It was a clean, small restaurant. However, there were only two tables with customers at this hour.
“We’re here!”
Eileen asked, “Are we here for a meal?”

Eileen was puzzled. “How do you know I eat ravioli at home every day?”

He called out, “Two servings of ravioli, please.”
The owner responded, “Got it!”
Eileen looked around, seemingly filled with curiosity about the new things around her.
“Is Will really that strict with you? He doesn’t let you eat anything. If you want to eat, no one
can stop you.”
The owner soon served them piping hot ravioli. The two of them seemed quite familiar with each other, chatting in a dialect she couldn’t understand.
“Is this young lady your girlfriend?”
“Not yet, but… I’m trying.”
“You better hurry then. Bring her over whenever you have the time.”
“Sure.”
After the owner left, Eileen asked him, “Do you know the owner?”
Elm nodded. “Yeah. I know. I used to come here often.”
Oh, okay.” She thought that someone as picky as Elm wouldn’t come to a place like this.
Eileen didn’t really mind. It was just that the restaurant was hard to find as it was located in an alley.
After a few minutes of eating, the other customers had already paid their bills and left.
Only the two of them remained in the restaurant.
The owner was an old man in his sixties or seventies. Now idle, he wore reading gla*ses and seemed to be mending something. The thread in his hand couldn’t pa*s through the needle’s eye, so he called Elm for help. “I need your help. I can’t see.”
Elm had just finished eating. He wiped his mouth and stood up. “What are you sewing? Let
me see.”
“It’s a top that got torn by a nail last time. With a little mending, it can still be worn.”
“Where is your wife?”
“Oh, she’s out walking the dog. She won’t be back for a while.”
Eileen noticed Elm settled in the seat just vacated by the owner. He picked up an old, blue garment, which looked like it had been worn for many years.
Eileen hadn’t expected Elm to be skilled in sewing. After finishing his meal, she walked over and watched him threading the needle. He skillfully handled the needle and thread. seemingly experienced.
Elm looked up to meet her gaze. “What’s wrong? Haven’t you seen someone sewing before?”
Eileen nodded. “I didn’t know you could sew. Elm, you’re quite amazing.”
Elm chuckled and replied, “It’s nothing. You learn it when you do it a lot.”
In his family, old clothes would be thrown away, and there was no chance of wearing them again.
Elm seemed strange in every way. With tattoos visible on his arms and that somewhat rogue appearance, he didn’t look like a good person at all.
Eileen couldn’t quite put her feelings into words as she watched him sew.
All she could say was that he was really quite a remarkable person.
When it was time to play, he would be the wildest of all. He never took things seriously at school However, when he was serious, he could learn how to sew.

The owner kept praising him, “Good job, Elm.”

When they were about to leave, the owner declined Elm’s money.

On the main street, they engaged in various games. One involved shooting bullets, where popping a small balloon would cause a doll to fall. Elm displayed remarkable accuracy, hitting the target every time. Consequently, Eileen received a large doll.
They went fishing and played hoopla.
All the prizes from those games were given to her.
She could barely hold them with both hands.
However, she couldn’t possibly take them back with her.
She had to ask Elm to deliver them to the small house she rented.
After two hours, they had only explored half of this lengthy street.
When they grew weary from playing, they would indulge in grilled squid and blue cheese from the street vendors, along with various snacks she had never tried before.
Eileen remembered the half-eaten candied apple from earlier. She turned around excitedly and asked, “Elm, where is the candied apple I was eating?”
“I finished it.”
“You finished it? How could you? It was mine!”
Elm raised his left eyebrow slightly. “Here’s the other half of the grilled octopus balls and tuna roll. There’s also a skewer, half a fried sausage, and half a crispy hash brown. Which one do you want? I already ate half of the leftovers for you. If I could have eaten more, I would have thrown them all away.”
Eileen felt a bit embarra*sed and said, “Should we eat slowly then? I won’t buy more,”
Elm chuckled. “Are you seriously considering buying more?”
