About going to the border, Stanley never got back to me. I had no job, no friends, nowhere to go, and could only stay in Alexander’s house all day, staring blankly and reading books.
Seeing how bored I was, one evening, he finally dragged me aside and said, “I’ve never seen anyone waste time like you. Come on, I’ll take you out for something delicious.”

The middle-aged man nodded, walked in, and looked at us, saying, “I just came out with the chairman to discuss some matters, Mr. Borseth, is this… your girlfriend?”

He smirked, his laughter low and sly, “Not really, I just wanted to alleviate your lovesickness.”
I stood up and said, “I’m full, let’s go, it’s time to go back.”
Before I could step out, he pulled me back to my seat. He patted my shoulder and said, “I was just talking casually, why are you reacting so much?”
I looked up at him, raising an eyebrow, “You don’t want Marjorie to marry him, so you want me to a*sert my presence in front of Walter?”
He flinched, avoiding my gaze, and sat back down in his seat. He said indifferently, “What use is it whether I want to or not? It won’t change anything. But what about you? Are you really just going to watch them get married?”
I pursed my l*ps, remaining silent.
He looked at me, seemingly lost in thought, then suddenly stood up and said, “Let’s go. Since you want to go back, I won’t stop you anymore.”
I frowned, looking at him with some confusion. He, with a face of indifference, said, “What are you looking at? Didn’t you say you were already full? Isn’t it boring to just sit here staring at each other?”
I didn’t talk much with him, I originally had no intention to go out.
I got up and followed him out of the box, but after only a few steps, he pulled me into another box.
“Old Li, still drinking?” As he entered the private room, he looked at the beer-bellied man sitting next to Walter and started to speak with a smile, “We’ve finished eating, just came to say hi, we’re leaving now!”

Old Li saw that everyone knew each other, and watched Alexander jokingly speak in official jargon.
Walter turned his gaze towards me, his dark eyes deep and profound. I looked but did not see, indifferently allowing Alexander to lead me away, listening dispa*sionately to his small talk with Old Li.
“Since Mr. Borseth is here, why don’t we have a drink before leaving?” Walter suddenly spoke, glancing indifferently at Alexander.
Upon hearing this, Alexander grinned and said, “Since Mr. Hinton has spoken, how could I possibly refuse? Of course, I’ll have a drink with you.”
