After a moment of silence, I looked at him and said, “I’ll carry you.” Having said that, I stood up, bent over, and walked in front of him, a*suming a position to carry him. A low laughter echoed from behind, but there was no other movement.
I looked back and saw Daniel standing right where he was, with no intention of carrying me at all. Instead, he had a smile on his face and seemed to be in a good mood.
Seeing this, I pursed my l*ps and said. “What are you laughing at? Do you despise me for being short and unable to carry you? Don’t underestimate me. Come here and see if I can’t carry you.”
He stopped laughing, looking at me, the wounds on his face couldn’t hide his handsome features. “I don’t despise you,” he said, smiling, “I just think you’re very cute. No one has ever offered to carry me, nor has anyone ever carried me.”
I pursed my l*ps, thinking he was talking nonsense. I walked over to him, grabbed his hand, and put it on my shoulder. I reached out to grab his legs, attempting to carry him.

He dodged, his voice tinged with a hint of amusement and embarra*sment, “I’m a man, it’s not right for a woman to carry me. Don’t worry, I can still walk.”
What was that about whether he could walk or not? He endured all the way, only he knew how much it hurt. I didn’t know before, but now that I do, isn’t it cruel of me to still drag him along?
Taking a deep breath, I looked at him and said, “I know you’re a tough guy, but I’m a woman, tender-hearted and melodramatic. I can’t bear to see you following me like this. Either I carry you, or we find a place to rest and wait for someone outside to rescue us.”
Clearly, only the former was practical, the latter was almost impossible. We had taken a detour to get here, not to mention there was no way to call for help, even the number of people who knew we had gone into the mountains was limited. How could anyone possibly come to rescue us in this deep, old forest? As for Sebastian, thinking of him filled me with worry. All I could do was pray in my heart that he was alright.
Seeing that he seemed unable to convince me, Daniel paused slightly and said, “If you try to carry me, we won’t get far before we both exhaust our strength and die here. Let’s do this, we continue as before, you supporting me as we walk, and we’ll just go slower.”
I knew, this was his bottom line. Men seemed to be very proud, unwilling to let women carry burdens, and even more unwilling to let women protect them.
I nodded, careful not to touch his pride.
Walking up to his side, supporting him, I said, “Alright, let’s take it slow.”
The mountain was too deep, like an endless sea, no matter how we
walked, we couldn’t find a way out of this mountain.
After walking for a while, Daniel was clearly too weak to continue. He was injured and running a high fever. After a short distance, his forehead was covered in sweat and he leaned against me, completely drained of strength.
And I, eventually ran out of strength. After supporting him for a while, I just couldn’t keep going. The light drizzle that had been falling gradually grew heavier.
Judging by the situation, it seemed like it was going to rain again. The outer layer of our clothes was already wet. If the rain got heavier and we were still in the mountains by nightfall, we would surely freeze to death.

The forest was never short of deadwood and easily flammable
kindling. Enduring the pain in my palm, it took me a good half hour to get the fire going.
