Chapter 285 Abandoned by Someone
He propped himself up and casually asked, “Have you been to the forests in the south? The kind of primeval forest that is completely uninhabited.”
I didn’t know why he told me this. I nodded slightly, reluctantly saying, “I’ve been there, and…” I had fled, it was something that happened five years ago, too long ago, yet it seemed to have happened just yesterday.
I didn’t have the habit of discussing past events without seeing someone, nor did I want to bring up things from five years ago. Glancing at him, I asked, “What’s up?” He suddenly started chatting about this with me.
He looked at me, his gaze distant, and said, “I’ve been there too. The mountains there are bigger than here, deeper than here. There are snakes, poisonous insects, entangling vines, and harmful wild beasts in the mountains.”
I pursed my l*ps, unable to suppress my curiosity, “Are you going on an adventure?” I had heard that wealthy people, in particular, enjoyed venturing into the wilderness, presumably for the thrill.
“No,” he began, his dark eyes deep, “it was left somewhere by
someone.”
I was taken aback, not expecting this situation. Looking at him, I asked, “Abandoned by someone? Why?” The only explanation I could think of was, is this how rich families raise their children? It seemed overly cruel.
Perhaps seeing my curiosity, his l*ps curled up slightly. He didn’t
continue speaking, but looked at me and asked, “What about you? Why did you go back to the primeval forest?”
Unexpectedly, he suddenly shifted the topic to me. I was slightly taken aback, hesitated for a moment, then took a slight breath and said, “Escape, I didn’t mean to go in.”
He didn’t seem surprised, just asked, “One person?”
Unconsciously, I recalled the sobering moment five years ago when I was forced by Ezra to plunge off a cliff with him, ensuring mutual destruction. Even though so many years have pa*sed since then, the resurgence of this memory still instills an unstoppable fear in me.
Suppressing the strangeness in my heart, I looked at Daniel and said, “The mountains here are also very large, we need to figure out a way to get out quickly.”
Perhaps noticing that I didn’t want to say much, he tugged at the corner of his mouth, looked around, and prepared to stand up. I reached out to help him, but before he could stand, he suddenly knelt down abruptly.
“Hiss!” The audible sound of him sucking in a breath was clearly due to pain.
I hurriedly crouched down and asked, “What’s wrong?” As I spoke, I was about to reach out to ch*ck his leg.
Somehow, she was suddenly pushed away by him. Immediately after, he lowered his voice, but the strong tone of resistance was still audible, “Don’t touch me.”
His sudden resistance startled me, but I quickly regained my composure. Confusion and hesitation welled up in my heart. His leg was clearly injured, why wouldn’t he let me see?
Perhaps realizing that his previous action had been too rough, Daniel
looked up at me, his movements stiffening a bit, and said unnaturally, “I’m fine, let’s go.”
I pursed my l*ps, remained still, watching him struggle to stand up, the doubts in my heart magnified.
He remembered, last night when Sebastian tried to touch his leg, he had the same reaction. So, what was wrong with his leg?
“Daniel!” I began, this time not politely calling him Mr. Monroe, but directly using his name.
Hearing my voice, he lowered his gaze towards me, glancing sideways. I wasn’t sure if it was because of the pain from forcing himself to stand up, but he was sweating profusely from his forehead.
Looking at me, he asked. “What’s wrong?”
My face was serious as I calmly said, “Your leg is injured, why won’t you let anyone see it?”
He furrowed his brows, a fleeting shadow of gloom and displeasure flashing across his forehead, “I said I’m fine.”
“Since there’s nothing wrong, why not let people see?” I spoke up, noticing the color of his face as he forcibly suppressed his emotions.
It was strange, his expression at one moment seemed as if he was annoyed with me. No, it wasn’t just annoyance, it was hatred. But this feeling only lasted for a few seconds, so brief that I thought I must have seen it wrong.
He looked at me, his thin l*ps twitching slightly, his voice softened a few degrees, “Let’s go, we need to get out of the mountain before dawn, or we’ll freeze to death here tonight.”
What he said was the truth, but at this moment, he didn’t look like

Perhaps it was the inherent rebelliousness in me, the more he didn’t want me to see, the more I wanted to see clearly.
