Chapter 260 What Did the Past Two Years of Marriage Count For?
I didn’t understand the meaning of his words, I just voiced my thoughts, “We are no longer husband and wife, it’s not right for my issues to involve you. Besides, our divorce is a fact that will eventually be made public. Since it’s a matter of time, why not choose to reveal it when necessary?”
The person across from me didn’t speak, but stared at me with a stern face, not moving at all. After a long while, they finally said, “Are you so afraid of continuing our relationship that you can’t wait to break it off?”
I furrowed my brows, clearly sensing the suppressed anger in his words, and couldn’t help but take a deep breath, saying, “We don’t have any relationship now anyway.”
“Tabatha!” He suddenly raised his voice, standing up. The man was tall and slender like jade, his handsome face filled with undeniable anger and disappointment. “What does two years of marriage mean to you?”
I didn’t know why he was so angry. I looked at him calmly and said, “Yes, we are husband and wife, Walter, but you seem to have forgotten. Over the past two years, I have done everything a wife should do. What about you? Have you fulfilled your duties as a husband? You are kind to me now because you found out that I was the one who saved you back then. But what if it was Ashley who saved you? Would you still treat me this well? Would you still risk your life to save me? Would you still help me without hesitation?”
In those days, it wasn’t that I couldn’t see the changes in Walter towards me, but I knew better than anyone else why these changes
occurred. It was nothing more than the kindness he had shown me in the past.
No matter who the person was back then, he would be unswervingly devoted to her. It had nothing to do with me, nor did it matter whether we had ever been married or not.
Looking at his bewildered gaze and the sudden dissipation of his anger, I couldn’t help but want to laugh. At this point, I didn’t need his answer, I already knew what it was.
Yes, his kindness to me was not because I was Tabatha, his former wife, but because I once saved his life without regard for my own. What he wanted to do was merely to repay the favor, nothing more.
Not hearing his response, I took a slight breath and calmly said, “You should go. Since Cory has already announced the divorce, there’s no substantial involvement between us anymore. As for the past favors, you desperately saved me yesterday, so let’s consider it as a mutual offset. Therefore, we owe nothing to each other. You don’t need to interfere in this matter. I believe the police will give me justice and will find out the truth.”
I’ve said all that needed to be said. There’s nothing left to talk about if we continue.
I stood up to leave when he suddenly spoke, “What if it wasn’t for you saving me?”
I froze, turning back to meet his deep, dark eyes, puzzled, “What?”
He looked at me, didn’t speak, but took a deep breath and said, “Anyone can repay a favor, but my wife, it has always been only you.”
I didn’t understand, couldn’t help but frown, and repeated the same sentence, “Walter, we’re divorced.”
“So what?” He spoke, his deep eyes stubbornly persistent, “You’re not married, I’m not married, we have all the time in the world.”
I was stunned, what was he…
I dared not guess the meaning behind his words. I opened my mouth, but in the end, I said nothing. He didn’t seem to intend to hear anything from me, just looked at me and said, “I won’t let you stay here for too long.”
After speaking, he strode out of the meeting room.
I was momentarily bewildered. What did he mean when he just said, “There’s plenty of time in the future”?
Henry’s death was like an invisible net that had me tightly covered. I thought I would be trapped by Ashley in this alley, but I didn’t expect to be trapped so tightly.
The forensic examiner couldn’t find any evidence on Henry’s b*dy to link his death to Ashley, nor could they prove that his death was unrelated to me. Ashley and I each held our own, accusing each other of being the one who killed Henry.
This matter, just fell into a deadlock
