Chapter 256 Detained!
I suddenly realized, almost forgetting, that Jacob had visited the old house to plead for Gianna. As soon as it hit the trending topics, he reacted, so he quickly notified the reporters. One group went to the old house to block me, and another went to the police station to make a
scene.
Once it was confirmed that I, as a suspect, was still at large, both the Hinton family and the police station would be plunged into a huge public opinion storm. As Captain Lucas said, the public would think they were colluding with business interests and bending the law for personal gain. If this matter escalated, it would cause a great uproar.

I originally thought that his sincere plea to Walter was because he knew in his heart that he had no way to teach his daughter and wanted to correct it. But thinking about it, how could human evil possibly change so easily?
Walter had sailed the boat to the other side of the lake, where Roy was already waiting in his car not far away.
Groping in the dark, Walter led me to the car and directed Roy to head straight for the police station.

Outside the police station lobby, a dozen or so police officers had blocked the lobby door, with those reporters strongly demanding to go in to confirm whether I was inside.

I couldn’t possibly go in directly through the front door, but I didn’t know if the police station had a back door. Helpless, I ended up calling Captain Lucas.
The phone was connected immediately, followed by his anxious voice, “Ms. Conner, have you arrived?”
I responded, “I’ve arrived, I’m outside the main gate, but there are too many reporters outside, I’m afraid I can’t go in directly.”
Captain Lucas paused slightly on the other end and said, “There’s only one entrance and exit.”
There was only one!
I was in a predicament. There was only one entrance and exit. Unless these reporters left now, my appearance would essentially confirm the fact that I was not at the police station.
Thinking of this, my brows were tightly knitted. Captain Lucas was probably also considering how to handle it, falling silent.
Walter stared at the crowd of reporters blocked outside the hall, slightly squinting his dark eyes. After a moment of silence, he took the phone from my hand and said into the receiver, “Have someone bring a set of female police uniforms.”

Walter didn’t say much. After hanging up the phone, he asked Roy to get out of the car and find the other things he needed nearby.
Before long, Captain Lucas had someone bring over a police uniform, which Walter asked me to put on.
I almost guessed what he was going to do, hesitating, “If I put on my police uniform, just walking in would attract attention. Once someone notices me appearing in a police uniform and it gets leaked to the media, even ten mouths wouldn’t be enough to explain.”
Looking at me, Walter appeared exceptionally calm as he said, “Don’t worry, we won’t be discovered.”
His voice was decisive, and somehow, I believed him. I no longer cared about changing my clothes in the car. Before long, Roy was back.
He handed me a pile of cosmetics, which made me think that Walter wanted me to put on makeup. I couldn’t help but say, “Doesn’t makeup make one more noticeable?”
Walter didn’t say much. He picked out a bottle of foundation from a pile of stuff and handed it to me, saying, “Try to darken your skin as much as possible. It’s dark at night, and with a hat on, plus deliberately darkened skin, the chances of being recognized will be reduced.”
True, he thought more meticulously than I did.
Everything was almost ready, I was about to get out of the car and figure out a way to sneak in, when Walter grabbed me, saying, “No rush.”
He had just finished speaking when I saw a black Bugatti drive up. I recognized the car as Walter’s in an instant, and looked at him in confusion.
He didn’t speak. The circle of reporters who had originally been blocked outside the police station noticed the black Bugatti. They swarmed around it before anyone could get out of the car, fearing they would miss any key figures coming out of it.
Seeing this scene, Walter spoke, “You can get out of the car now.”
Hearing his words, I didn’t linger either. I opened the door and got out of the car. The scene outside the police station was chaotic, and quite a few officers had been dispatched from inside to maintain order tonight.
While all the reporters were surrounding the Bugatti car, I blended into a group of police officers maintaining order.
I didn’t know who tugged at me, whispering in my ear, “Follow me.”
Subsequently, I was taken to the police station.
Having successfully entered the police station, Captain Lucas breathed a sigh of relief and proceeded to temporarily detain me according to procedure.
