Chapter 1 Narrowly Escaping
“At 12:30 AM in Zenith City, a plane bound for Silver City unfortunately crashed upon landing, resulting in the death toll rising to 136 people, with only three survivors remaining.”
The real–time report of the air disaster was broadcast on the hospital’s large screen, pulling Gianna Rivera’s thoughts back.
As one of the survivors, she lay in the ICU bed, her legs wrapped in bandages and covered in injuries.
Her phone, clenched in her hand, vibrated frequently with the words. “The number trying to reach is not reachable. Please try again later.”
you are
Since the accident occurred, her husband, Levi Rivera, hadn’t answered a single call. She couldn’t believe he was completely unaware of this nationwide shocking air disaster. The scene of the accident was filled with bodies scattered everywhere. The kind of fear that almost took her life still left her unable to breathe.
While she desperately needed companionship, the man she had been married to for three years was nowhere to be found.
A chill ran through Gianna’s heart.
After a while, her phone suddenly rang urgently, snapping her back to reality. Startled, she picked it up and saw the name Maya Rivera flashing on the screen, the brightness in her eyes dimming.
“Hello…” she answered, her voice hoarse.
From the other end came the concerned voice of an elderly woman. “Gianna, you really scared me! Are you alright? Is Levi with you?”
Maya was Levi’s grandmother, the only person in the Rivera family who cared for her.
“He…”
Maya immediately noticed her silence. “That rascal! You’re his secretary and his wife. You went abroad for his business, and now that you’re in trouble, he’s nowhere to be found. Just wait, I won’t spare him!”
Maya continued, “Which hospital are you at? I’m sending the butler to pick you up!”
Soon after Gianna gave her the address, the call ended.
Gianna looked down, quietly removing the IV needle from her arm and enduring the pain as she got out of bed.
“What are you doing? Your leg injury hasn’t healed yet. You need to rest.”
The nurse who came in to check on her didn’t stop Gianna’s actions.
“Bring me two crutches. I’m checking out.”
Her gaze was resolute, leaving no room for questioning.
Rivera Manor was more suitable for recovery than the hospital.
Moreover, she was the executive secretary of Rivera Group, and this trip to Dubai was to represent the group in arranging a medical exhibition and personnel check. The report she prepared needed to be immediately submitted to the company.
More importantly, she wanted to know what Levi was up to and where he had been.
The nurse couldn’t dissuade her. The nurse handed over two crutches. Without hesitation, Gianna
left the ICU room, limping along the wall toward the hospital’s payment area. However, near the lobby’s glass doors, she suddenly saw a familiar license plate and several luxury cars parked nearby.
These were Rivera Group’s vehicles.
Several people got out of the car, and at the center was a man dressed in a black suit, holding a woman in his arms. It was evident he cherished her greatly as he wrapped his black coat around her exposed legs.
He hurriedly walked toward the hospital’s main hall.
He didn’t notice Gianna at all.
She stood a bit distant, watching him enter the specialist clinic with the woman in his arms. She had never seen him display such deep affection in their three years of marriage.
Who was that woman?
Regardless of who she was, an indescribable pain spread through Gianna’s heart, making it hard for her to breathe.
After a while, nurses passed by her in the hospital corridor, whispering to each other, “Wow, isn’t that Levi Rivera, the heir to the Rivera Group fortune, who often appears in financial reports? He’s so handsome! I can’t believe we’re seeing him at the hospital. He’s even accompanying his girlfriend for a prenatal checkup.”
‘Prenatal checkup? Are you sure?”
“Of course, the examination report says the fetus is already 12 weeks old. Because there was bleeding today due to fetal instability, Mr. Rivera brought her in.”
Twelve weeks… Which was two months ago…
Suddenly, Gianna remembered that Levi’s travel schedule indeed included a week–long business rip two months ago.
She clenched her phone tightly, her knuckles turning pale.
So, he was having an affair?
After all, as his secretive wife and the group’s secretary, she had never caught wind of any rumors bout him and other women before this.
