Pearl found an empty booth, and Raymond promptly joined her.

“Why sit at my table?” Pearl moved away from him.

“There are no tables left, let’s make do,” Raymond said, unabashedly pouring himself a drink.

Pearl pointed to the empty tables not far away. “Are you having trouble with your eyesight, Mister Raymond?”

“You’ve got me. My eyesight has always been poor, and it just so happened that I don’t have my glasses with me today.”

Raymond had indeed been wearing glasses all the time before this and he looked serious. Without them now, plus a few strands of hair drifting on his forehead, he was looking… somewhat charming and dashing.

“Let’s not beat around the bush. What do you have to say to me?” Pearl was straightforward.

Raymond finally dropped the pretense and said, “Master Jordan wants you to get engaged to me.”

Pearl almost choked on her drink. “Engaged? Raymond, you know I can’t do that.”

“Oh, I’m not so sure about that,” Raymond said with a sly smile.

Pearl was suspicious. “What’s Master Jordan planning?”

Raymond had a teasing smirk. “This matter is beyond my control, but Master Jordan is trying hard to make you come home.”

“Why are you telling me this? Aren’t you worried I’ll make plans?” Pearl stared suspiciously at Raymond.

Raymond crossed his legs and poured himself another glass of wine. “Because you can’t change anything.”

Pearl raised her glass, toasting him. “Raymond, I must say, you still have some audacity.”

“Even if I have to be with you, I’ll win you over. Telling you now doesn’t matter. You’ll end up agreeing to the engagement.” Raymond toasted back with a proud smile.

Pearl realized Raymond was different now, a bit… crazy. She stood up, unable to stomach the drink any longer. It was time to leave.

“I’m leaving ”

Just as Pearl started walking away, someone grabbed her wrist. “Don’t go in a hurry. Aren’t you curious about Richard Waldorf?”

Hearing ‘Richard Waldorf’ hit a nerve Though she could mention it without difficulty, it remained a sore point.

Pearl stopped abruptly, her gaze fixed on Raymond’s face. His typically composed face now showed a hint of annoyance.

“Why bring him up?”

“Your boyfriend is cozying up with someone else, going so far as to protect her. If I were you, I wouldn’t tolerate it. Don’t you ever question that? Do you know why there’s a sudden change in Richard’s attitude?”

Pearl was taken aback. “Why?”

“Because Richard can’t forget his ex, his first love. Don’t you know how important ‘first love’ is?” Raymond laughed mockingly.

But Pearl saw a trace of sadness in his eyes.
