Chapter 337 He Just Wants to Hold Her
Hans shook his head at the thought of it.
“So, are you saying that not even you know who my birth mother is, Grandpa?”
Hans nodded. “That’s right. I’ve been investigating her identity in secret, but it hasn’t been yielding any results. So, I didn’t pursue it any further. Regardless of who she may be, you’re a Larkin through and through. I’m proud to have you as my grandson, Cedric.”
Cedric frowned. “Didn’t father ever say anything about her?”
“Not a thing at all. However, he did give me a jade tablet when he first carried you here. He asked me to keep it safe. I recognized it. You need to have it if you want to rule over the Fox family. Without it, you won’t be able to hold on to that position!
“However, right now, Lauren is ruling over the Fox family. She was doing fine without the jade tablet. She’s an impressive lady by all means. If it hadn’t been for Rosa, she would’ve been the top business tycoon.”
“Lauren?” Cedric said deliberately.
Hans nodded. “That’s her. All your father said about the jade tablet was that the fate of our family wil depend on it when the time comes. He didn’t say more than that.
“Rita came to my manor and asked for it once. I don’t think she knew it belonged to the Fox family, only that I have something that could decide our family’s fate.”
“Right.” Cedric nodded.
“You don’t seem to be surprised about it. Are you already aware that Rita stirred up trouble here?”
Cedric nodded once more.
“Well. Do you know how awesome Maia was? She held Rita’s head in the pond out there. That made my day!” It had been a while ago, but Hans still beamed when he recounted this particular tale.
“I was right outside that day,” Cedric said confidently.
“Were you? Does that mean you witnessed everything?” Hans was quite surprised. Even Fernando was thrown.
“That’s right.”
“In that case, why didn’t you come in and help?”
“I didn’t know Rita wasn’t my birth mother back then. Who was I supposed to help?

Hans burst into laughter at that. “Good one, kiddo!” He was even happier now.
Then, it hit him. He looked at Cedric and asked immediately, “What did you call Maia just now? Can you say it again? Did I hear you right? Were my ears deceiving me?”
“You heard it right, Grandpa,” Cedric assured Hans.
“Good going, kiddo! Did you make up with Maia already?”
“Almost. I’m on probation.”
“Make sure you ace it, then. Don’t ever let her down again. Listen to me. Maia’s adorable, kind- hearted, and highly capable. She can be merciless when she leaps into action. You just don’t find ladies like her these days! You have to cherish her!”
“I already do.”
She was the only person he would protect, cherish, and love in his life. As a matter of fact, he had only ever loved her.
Hans nodded his head in relief. “That’s good. Very good.”
“Where’s the jade tablet, Grandpa?”
“Ever since then, I’ve been worried that Rita would return for it again. I’m already old. That’s why I told Maia how important it is and entrusted it to her. If you want it, you’ll have to ask
your wife.”
Cedric chuckled. “There’s no better solution than to let her keep it. She’s the mistress of the house. She should hold on to the key to our family’s fate.”
Hans was pleasantly surprised to hear that. “It’s been so long since I last saw you. You’re getting better at knowing what to say! Very good. You’ve put my mind at ease. Make sure you dote on her and treasure her every day. Don’t lose her again.”
“I won’t ever lose her again,” Cedric said firmly.
Hans was furious about Rita taking her illegitimate daughter into their family, but he was overjoyed to learn that Cedric and Maia had made up.
Fernando saw that Hans was happy and seized the opportunity, “Today’s such a happy day, Mr. Hans. You can have a bigger portion of the proper meal and cut down on the dessert
today.”
Hans rebutted at once, “Come on. It’s such a happy day I should have more dessert.”
“Please say something, Mr. Cedric. Mr. Hans has high blood sugar. He can’t take more desserts.”
Cedric frowned slightly, looked at Hans, and raised his voice, “Grandpa.”

“Alright. Okay. I won’t eat the desserts. I’ll stay off desserts if it means keeping you and Maia together.” He would do anything for the both of them!
Cedric chuckled and got up, ready to leave.
“Are you leaving already?”
“I’m going to look for Maia.”
“You’d better hurry, then. Go, now. Right this instant!” Hans even pushed him along. Cedric smiled and headed to the courtyard. It felt as if he had walked out of a murky fog when the sun
shone on him.
Cedric was not disheartened to learn that Rita was not his birth mother, nor did he feel sorry for himself at all. On the contrary, he felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted off his shoulders.
Rita had disappointed him greatly. No one wanted to be her child and that included him. He was glad that he was not related to her at all.
Then, he made a phone call. “Where is she?”
“Ms. Maia’s at the winery, Mr. Cedric.”
With that, he hung up the phone and drove to Burgess Winery. He wanted to hug Maia. All he wanted to do at that moment was to hold her tight.
At that moment, Elena was taking Maia around the winery, showing her the slight modifications, and bringing her up to speed on recent affairs.
Maia looked at Elena and smiled when they turned a corner. She tried to probe, “Anyway, I bumped into a celebrity during the Horizon Awards. We came to talk about you and she said she knew you well.”
Maia was observing for any changes in Elena’s expression. In fact, Elena froze a little when
she said that.
Maia kept going, “However, that celebrity wasn’t particularly popular in the industry. It’s actually a miracle that she was able to attend the Horizon Awards.”
“I don’t know anyone in the entertainment industry, nor have I paid close attention to them. Is it possible they tried to put me in a difficult position by making things up, just because I’m both deaf and mute?”
Elena was not going to admit it. Not a chance.
