Charlotte was coughing hysterically, and Alpha Nick asked worriedly, “What is the problem?” Her harsh coughs
had attracted extra attention.
There was no response, but Charlotte’s eyes were teary as she continued to cough. Alpha Nick waited patiently for her to stop coughing and start explaining certain things.
Patrick was equally worried. “I think we should get her some water,” he said, beckoning to one of the waiters. The water was brought as Patrick said,
“I have to take my position. I will be helping the judges today.” He pulled his wife away as they made their way to where the judges sat. It was evident that Alpha Nick had no idea Charlotte had eloped. Also, she didn’t want Patrick to spill the–beans.
“Alright, we shall discuss more after the event,” Alpha Nick spoke with a morose expression. He was indeed going to dig further into the matter, but as he was there for business, that was his focus at the moment.
As Charlotte drank the water with relief, knowing that Patrick had left, Alpha Nick’s attention was divided. He couldn’t forget the seriousness attached to Patrick’s words that Charlotte had willingly entered a car on their wedding day.
Then again, his mother’s warnings, including Sheila’s words when confronted with Charlotte. What were they seeing that he couldn’t see? Was he blind? Whatever it was, he was ready to see it too.
He mindlinked one of the b*dyguards he came with, hovering around the venue in case of any threats. Not only him, but most of the Alphas and billionaires present all came with b*dyguards.
‘Keep an eye on Charlotte throughout the program and report anything odd.”
“Yes, Alpha,’ the b*dyguard immediately reported via mindlink. Though they were out of the pack, the distance was close, and Alpha Nick was grateful for mindlink.
It wasn’t a phone that someone could eavesdrop on their conversation. Charlotte’s calmness at the departure of Patrick and his mate got Alpha Nick even more suspicious.
Suddenly, the violent coughing stopped. Insidiously, it was time to make her answer a few questions as well.

“Yes, I guess I choked on saliva,” Charlotte lied, avoiding Alpha Nick’s scrutinizing gaze. He wanted to say something, but other businessmen were quickly approaching them, so he bit back his questions.
“I see.”
The gentlemen were close when a confident male voice was heard from the speakers. “Ladies and gentlemen, we shall begin the 21st Gala Awards celebration,” the MC echoed through a cordless microphone.
There were two MCs hosting the show, a male and a female. Tom arrived but kept his distance from Alpha Nick due to all that happened in the pack house.
He might just find a way to get the truth out of Charlotte after the gala awards. The refreshment time was the same as mingling time..
Everyone had taken their positions, and Alpha Nick looked around as if he was looking for someone. Yes, he was looking for Sheila, but she was indeed not in attendance as she said to Alpha Nick.
The round table was large enough for twenty people. Those around the table were exchanging pleasantries, but Alpha Nick was cold. Too many things battled for dominance in his mind. Charlotte received a message on the
phone.
‘Meet me at the ladies‘ washroom, or I will announce what we did.
The message might be from a strange number, but the tone was enough confirmation that it was Tom. Charlotte smiled bitterly, not knowing if she regretted falling in love with Tom. He was now trying to blackmail her for something they both did.
“Nick, I want to use the ladies‘ room. I don’t want to miss out when the program starts.”
Alpha Nick bobbed his head as he had seen Tom among the guests. Since Patrick’s half revelation, a part of him dimmed towards her. Since he had someone watch Charlotte’s every move, he didn’t need to stalk her to cause a
scene.
Charlotte headed to the ladies‘ room, and Tom was indeed waiting for her as expected. About to pull her into his arms, she swerved him in time. “Are you mad, or do you want to get us killed? This is a public place, and you want to get intimate with me?”

Annoyance was evident in her tone as she spoke harshly to him. Thanks to Tom’s lack of self–control, things were becoming more and more difficult for Charlotte.
“I miss you a lot, but we need to talk,” Tom said seriously. Charlotte was uneasy being with him for fear that anyone could come to the washroom to see them. She could also congratulate Tom for the fact that he chose a time when the program was about to begin so no one would leave their seats to not miss anything.
“Let’s do it after the awards. There will be plenty of time for that. A lot of business acquaintances will be made, and Alpha Nick will be busy by then,” Charlotte suggested. It was time for her to also put things straight with Tom before he messes up her life.
“Alright, keep your word, or I might just take you away if you try to outsmart me like you did in the packhouse.”
He was not happy with Charlotte’s craving of intimacy with Alpha Nick at all. Charlotte could not be bothered. Alpha Nick was her mate, so it was only natural for them to be intimate. How idiotic it was for the illegal partner to be envious of the legal one.
“I saved your life. Alpha Nick is already suspicious of us. I will go first.”
‘Alpha, Miss Charlotte went to the ladies‘ room, and after she came out, Mr. Thomas Addy followed.‘
Alpha Nick was about to head to the ladies‘ room at the receipt of this information when two elegant figures entered the auditorium, capturing all the attention.
All eyes were focused on the smiling couple. The man was dressed in a cream tuxedo, similar to what Alpha Nick was wearing, and the woman wore a red seductive gown that flaunted her curves.
Her back was merely covered with multiple pearls, and she wore a large diamond around her neck. Her long hair cascaded to her shoulders, reaching her back as her stilettos and earrings glittered with diamonds.
Gasps could already be heard. “Wow, who is that woman?”
Her arm was hooked around that of Alpha Ansaldo, and they walked elegantly to one of the vacant seats
reserved for nominees. It was clear that she was a businesswoman who had entered the contest with her
product.
“When did Alpha Ansaldo find her mate? She seems like a businesswoman,” a lady murmured.
Alpha Nick mindlinked his b*dyguard again. “Who is that woman in the red dress? I want to collaborate with her,”
