After leaving the cafeteria, Yvette waited in vain for a message from Eric. Frustrated, she kicked a stone at her feet. “What on earth is he doing? He hasn’t replied for so long. Even a big meeting should have ended by now. Eileen, give me your phone!”
Eileen said softly, “He won’t answer.
“How will we know if we don’t try? Come on! Let me use yours to call him!”
Eileen couldn’t resist and reluctantly handed over her phone. In truth, she didn’t want to be part of their dinner. If she could play matchmaker for them, Eileen would have to grit her teeth and reluctantly agree.
Yvette held the phone to her ear while anxiously twirling a strand of hair with her fingers. To her surprise, after only a few seconds, a deep, magnetic voice sounded from the other end of the line, “Eileen, what’s up?”
Yvette listened to the voice, and her heart sank a bit. “It’s not your sister. It’s me!” she said somewhat angrily.

She could tell that the tone of the voice had suddenly become cold. It was clear that she was being treated differently.
“Eric, did you or did you not see the message I sent you? Weren’t we supposed to go out for a meal?”
Yvette spoke before she heard another woman’s voice from her phone. “Mr. Snow, have you. finished your meeting? The meal I ordered for you has been delivered to your office.”
Eric gave a slight nod while Gavin was reporting the upcoming work tasks on the side. One after another, they walked into the elevator.
“I understand. What time are we meeting in the evening?
Yvette bit her l*p. It seemed she had misunderstood him. She had thought he was intentionally not answering her calls. Her voice carried a hint of apology as she said, “You haven’t eaten yet? Then you should eat first! Have you finished work? I’ll come find you with Eileen tonight! We can decide where to eat then.”

After she hung up the phone, Eric asked Gavin about the plans for the rest of the evening.

The last cla*s in the afternoon was a self-study period. Eileen went to the cla*sroom in the professional training workshop. The person in charge of the Olympiad Math team was a man in his thirties named Jacob Gardner. As soon as Eileen arrived, she was called into a separate cla*sroom.
