Eileet in the mood to discuss these matters and didn’t care about Vera’s embarra*sed expression now.
Still feeling a bit unwell, she closed her eyes and said, “It’s okay, it’s my fault. Alan, let’s go! First, drop Vera off.”
“Sure thing, Ms. Eileen.”
Alan was a trusted member of the Swan family. He was sincere, honest, and dedicated. Otherwise, Will wouldn’t have kept him around for so long.
Vera’s expression turned sour. “Alan, just take me to Eric’s company. I’ll wait for him there, and we have some things to discuss later.”
Alan didn’t directly respond to Vera. Instead, he looked at Eileen through the rearview mirror and asked, “Ms. Eileen, do you want to change the destination?”
He wanted Eileen’s approval.
Eileen mumbled a vague “yes” without saying more.
Vera seemed embarra*sed as she kept her head down and remained silent.
In the past, when Eileen still had feelings for Eric, she used to go to his company after school, waiting for him to finish work, and then they would leave together. Those were the days when Eileen insisted on going to the company.
She and Vera were always different.
However, Eileen couldn’t help but wonder-who would Eric choose between Yvette, who was powerful and influential with a strong background and potential benefits for him, and Vera, his beloved first crush whom he had been through thick and thin with?
She was once a participant in this competition, but now, she was merely a member of the audience.

It was rush hour, and the journey to Caerulus Corporation, which usually took half an hour, now took a whole hour.
In the company’s lobby, Eric spoke fluently in Uprian with a few foreign researchers in suits, blonde hair, and blue eyes. They were all led by a person speaking somewhat awkward Clusian.
“We are satisfied with the proposal you presented, Mr. Snow. We hope for a perfect collaboration in the future.”
“Of course.”
Eric watched as the business partners got into their black Bentley and drove away.
Another familiar vehicle came to a stop.
Eric’s sharp gaze fell on the closed rear pa*senger door, the shaded window preventing a view
inside.
Soon, the door opened, and Vera stepped out. “Eric,” she said, her voice shaky as she exited the car, feeling a bit nauseous from the ride.
Eric asked. “What’s wrong? Not feeling well?”
Shaking her head, Vera replied, “It’s nothing: just a bit queasy. It’ll pa*s. Eric, will my late arrival delay the banquet?”
Eric checked the time on his watch. “We’re still on time, so there’s no need to worry.”
“I hope so.”
A voice came from inside the car, “Alan, since we’re on the way, let’s make a quick stop at the
mall.”
“Sure thing. Ms. Eileen.”
Vera followed Eric into the CEO’s private elevator, arriving at the executive office. In the adjacent meeting room’s lounge, a door swung open, revealing a group of people.
A woman in a professional black suit with a tight-fitting skirt walked out. “Mr. Snow, everything is ready. Is this young lady with you tonight?”
Vera looked puzzled, “Eric, what’s going on?”
Eric didn’t answer, only stating, “You have thirty minutes.”
“No problem, we’ll make sure you’re satisfied.”

Vera, still unsure about the situation, was quickly ushered into the room. A team of people surrounded her, preparing to style her hair and do her makeup.
In front of the dressing mirror, an elegant Blake evening gown hung on the rack. It looked expensive, luxurious, and elegant, instantly capturing Vera’s attention. It was a beautiful princess dress that every girl dreams of wearing.
Was Eric taking her as his companion to the banquet tonight?
Thinking of this, Vera nervously clasped her hands, her heart filled with anticipation.
Eileen went to the mall to pick out a gift for Yvette. Since she was attending the banquet, it was only fitting to bring a gift and not arrive empty-handed.
Considering they were more like acquaintances than close friends, Eileen didn’t spend much time choosing and settled on a scarf. Unexpectedly, even a simple scarf cost her over eight hundred dollars, and she considered returning it. However, the tag had already been removed, and she couldn’t return it.
Luckily, Will had provided a shopping card with a fifty percent discount, bringing the cost down to four hundred dollars.
Still, it was a significant price, and Eileen felt the pinch.
Returning to her room at Undella Mansion, unsure of what to wear to Yvette’s birthday banquet, Eileen discovered a Blake box at the bottom of her closet drawer. Opening it revealed the dress she was looking for a backless, strapless black gown.
Perfect.
As it was her first time attending a banquet, Eileen didn’t have many dress options. The ones she had were outdated and not up to her standards, let alone suitable for a public event.
Though the style and color of the black dress were simple, they were timeless and wouldn’t go out of fashion.
Eileen bit her l*p, unsure if she could pull it off.
“Why not give it a try?”
She quickly stood up, headed to the bathroom, and changed into the gown. As she looked at herself in the full-length mirror, she examined both sides. It fitted just right. If she were skinnier, the fabric by her ch*st area would sag. If she were fatter, she would look round in the dress, and the flesh by her ch*st would appear to overflow from her attire.
With her current figure, no one would believe she was a high school student.

At half past eight, the banquet officially began.
Yvette wore a custom-made gown worth a million and opened the evening with a dance alongside a popular male celebrity. The performance was stunning and graceful, exuding the elegance of a socialite.
The attendees were influential figures from the political arena and prominent figures in the business world.
Below the stage, guests raised their gla*ses in a toast, engaging in lively conversations.
For a few minutes, Yvette appeared slightly distracted, continuously glancing towards the entrance, her expectant gaze hinting at someone she was eagerly anticipating.
Her distraction ceased when the usher introduced the guests.
Yvette noticed the man, accompanied by the conspicuous figure of Vera. The slight upward curve of Yvette’s mouth quickly faded.
However, she could feel the man’s gaze fixed upon her.
Amidst her twirling dance, Yvette shot a glare at Eric standing in the crowd.
Nevertheless, she swiftly regained her composure, maintaining an elegant posture as she
concluded the dance.
Feeling uneasy, Vera refrained from looking around too much, as many faces in the crowd were unfamiliar to her. She noticed a person in a tailcoat playing a Blake piano-perhaps the world-renowned pianist, Mike?
Vera marveled at the scene.
Was this the epitome of power?
Standing at the pinnacle of the pyramid, enjoying the privileges bestowed by wealth.
It seemed like something everyone would find difficult to resist-to have whatever one desired!
The effortlessly acquired possessions surpa*sed what anyone else could attain.
There was no need to live according to the whims of others.
