Chapter 61 Are You Scared Now
The bumpy journey reopened Eileen’s abdominal wound, causing her immense pain.
“Ouch, it hurts!” she exclaimed.
Despite the pain, she fought to stay conscious and refused to collapse.
As her vision blurred and she felt herself slipping into a daze, she clenched her teeth and remained silent.
She didn’t want to burden him any further.
Suddenly, Eileen leaned forward, catching Eric’s attention. He opened his eyes and quickly reached out to support her.
As soon as he touched her, he felt a burning sensation emanating from her b*dy, prompting him to pull her into his arms.
Eric furrowed his brow and asked, “How much longer until we reach the hospital?”
“The road repairs are causing some congestion. It’s going to take at least an hour,” Vera replied, startled.
Eric uncovered Eileen, revealing her blood-soaked clothing underneath. “Why didn’t she say anything?” he wondered.
“Stop the car by the road, Gavin, and get the first aid kit, Eric instructed.
Gavin pulled over and swiftly retrieved the first aid kit from the trunk.
Inside, it was stocked with commonly used medicines.
Eric began to undress Eileen, carefully removing the bandage from her abdomen and discarding it.
He then worked to stem the bleeding.
By the time he finished dressing the wound, Eileen had already lost consciousness.
“At this rate, she’ll lose too much blood and go into shock,” Eric thought to himself.
Vera watched the scene unfold through the rearview mirror, gripping the hem of her skirt. tightly. Her head was lowered, and her eyes were filled with indescribable emotions.
After the roadblock was cleared, they arrived at Serene Hospital in less than thirty minutes.

Eileen was immediately rushed into the operating room, with Gavin staying behind to keep her company.
Eric then escorted Vera home, as he needed to retrieve some documents for a meeting at the
office.
Vera stood outside the door as Eric emerged from the study’s bathroom, freshly showered. His damp hair glistened, and droplets of water clung to the ends. He was drying himself with a towel.
As usual, he was dressed in a black shirt and pants, exuding an aloof and restrained aura. His piercing gaze could intimidate anyone who looked at him. It was like staring into a dark abyss that instilled fear. The dim light in the room made it difficult to discern his emotions.
“Is there something you need?” Eric asked, his appearance striking Vera with terror.
While sitting in the car, Vera had suddenly felt a sense of insecurity for reasons unknown.
She was terrified that Eric would abandon her just like that.
Vera stepped forward and embraced Eric, wrapping her arms around his waist. “Eric…”
Eric paused his hand that was stroking his hair. His gaze deepened as he responded to her actions, “Did I frighten you?”
Vera nodded, holding onto him even tighter. “Mm-hmm.”
Eric gently stroked her back. “I’ll be more careful in the future.”
Vera released her grip and looked up at him. “Eric, please don’t do that again.”
Eric’s broad and rough hand gently caressed her hair. His eyes no longer held their previous. coldness. “I understand,” he said.
Eric knew what she was afraid of.
When he had taken action earlier, he hadn’t considered the consequences.
The situation with Eileen had caused him to lose his sense of propriety.
In his mind, the same image kept replaying.
The fact that Eileen had jumped into the sea without hesitation was beyond his expectations.
It was as if she had become a different person.
“What could have caused such a change in her? Or perhaps she has learned something?” Eric

Ever since Eileen retaliated against the Gates family, Eric had sensed that something was
amiss.
If that was indeed the case, he couldn’t keep her by his side, let alone allow her to become involved with the Smith family.
Vera watched as Eric took the documents and left. He hadn’t shown any interest in her affairs in Peach Fishing Village. The more he acted that way, the more Vera felt that Eric simply didn’t care about her.
It wasn’t until she saw the stack of photos on Eric’s desk that Vera’s mind was blown away.
“So, when Eileen left the Swan family, Eric didn’t ignore her. On the contrary, he has been keeping a close eye on her. If Eileen hadn’t encountered trouble this time, Eric wouldn’t have personally come to Peach Fishing Village. They have grown up together, experiencing all kinds of hardships. They are like family to each other,” Vera realized.
During her years abroad, Vera had noticed that Eric was becoming increasingly distant, unlike his former self.
She was truly terrified of losing him.
After the company meeting. Eric left the conference room and received a call from Gavin.
Gavin had just finished settling the medical bill and was holding the receipt in his hand. He reported, “Ms. Swan has completed her blood transfusion, and her abdominal wound has been stitched up. Apart from that, there are no other internal injuries. However… she has developed a high fever of 39.8 degrees and needs to be hospitalized for a week.”
Gavin silently prayed that he wouldn’t be tasked with taking care of Eileen.
If that were the case, he would prefer death.
Eric entered the elevator, glancing at the time. It was already half past four in the afternoon.
“Find a caregiver to watch over her twenty-four hours a day,” Eric instructed.
“Understood.”
After hanging up, Gavin had a nagging feeling that he had forgotten something important, but he couldn’t quite remember what it was.
In the end, he dismissed the thought.
After finding a caregiver, Gavin hurriedly drove back to the office.

Inside the hospital, the scent of disinfectant filled the air, but there was an overwhelming coldness that lacked any warmth.
Eileen had a dream. In her dream, she saw herself lifeless, her soul detached from her b*dy. She wandered through the corridors, but no matter how far she walked, she couldn’t escape the pitch-black hospital. She observed gurneys moving back and forth and people pa*sing by
her…
It felt as if she was trapped.
Suddenly, Eileen was abruptly awakened by a searing pain in her throat, accompanied by a throbbing headache. She had lost count of how many times she had fallen ill, each time. waking up in the same manner.
The hospital room was enveloped in darkness, devoid of any presence. After coughing. harshly for a while, she felt a chilling sensation on the back of her hand. Eileen quickly removed the needle. If she hadn’t woken up early, she feared that the IV bag might have been filled with her own blood by morning.
Using her hand for support, she sat up on the bed.
Just as she reached out to turn on the bedside lamp, the light flickered on with a ‘pop’.
The glaring Blake light was so intense that she struggled to adjust to it.
When Eileen looked at the person standing by the door, she was startled.
When did Eric enter the ward? Why didn’t I notice him at all?
“Eric…” Her voice sounded hoarse.
Ignoring the needle on the floor, Eric approached Eileen and gently touched her forehead with the back of his hand.
She still has a slight fever.
Shouldn’t he be with Vera at this hour?
Eileen coughed a few times, avoiding his intense gaze. “Eric… why are you here at this hour?”
“Eileen, what is it that makes you so determined to leave the Swan family? Or is it… Eileen, have you discovered something and you’re unwilling to tell me?”
An invisible pressure weighed down on her, causing Eileen to suddenly struggle to breathe. She gasped for air, her face turning pale.
