Chapter 285 Apologize
Layla left the banquet early and returned to the Smith residence.
Richard handed her a file. “Someone just came by and said that Mr. Jasper forgot to give this to you. He insisted that you must open it yourself.”
Layla expressed her confusion. “This child has learned to keep me in suspense too. You all may leave now. Let me see what it is by myself.”
After the housekeepers left, only Martha, who had been with Layla for many years, stayed behind.
Layla sat on the couch and opened the file. She pulled out a marriage health ch*ck report from the file. The name on it was Eileen. When she saw the last column, her eyes widened instantly and her breathing. quickened. “This is…” Even her hand holding the report was trembling.
“Old Mrs. Smith, are you all right?” Martha noticed something was wrong with Layla. It was a sign of heart. disease. She quickly took out a bottle of medicine and fed it to her.
Layla finally caught her breath. Martha picked up the scattered medical reports from the floor. Upon seeing the information on them, she was shocked. “What? Ms. Eileen doesn’t have a uterus, and she can’t get pregnant? How is this possible? Does Mr. Jasper know about it?”
Layla ordered, “Call him! Call him right now! Why wasn’t I informed of such a big issue earlier?”
In order not to upset her further, Martha quickly put it away. She reached for the phone placed on the coffee table and made a few calls, but no one answered them.
Just then, a housekeeper hurried in from outside. “Old Mrs. Smith, there’s a child outside claiming to be looking for his father.”
“Whose child is it? Hurry and take them to the police station.”
The housekeeper exclaimed anxiously, “Oh dear, Old Mrs. Smith, you should go and see for yourself.”
Layla stepped outside and saw a little boy who appeared to be only four or five years old standing at the door. He was dressed in denim overalls, clutching a teddy bear in his arms. He looked up and said, “Grandma… my mommy said I could find my daddy here. Can you tell me where my daddy is?”
“W-What’s your name?” Layla spoke with difficulty,
Martha also exclaimed in astonishment, “They’re so alike. It’s as if they were carved from the same mold. How is this even possible!”
Layla asked, “Child… what’s your mother’s name?”
The innocent voice of the little one began, “My mom’s name is…”
After hearing this, Layla was caught off guard. Her face turned pale and she fainted.
The entire Smith residence was instantly thrown into chaos.
“Quickly call Mr. Jasper!”
The little one walked away to a corner, turned to the person standing in front of him with a disheartened. face, and said, “Mommy… Grandma doesn’t like me.”

“Don’t worry. Grandma will like you. Shall we go home? In a few days, Daddy will come to take us back.”
“Okay. Mommy.”
The woman, holding the hand of the little one, walked into the darkness until they were out of sight.
Jasper was engaged in lively conversation with the guests in the business arena, while Eileen, accustomed to such occasions, was at his side, her obliging smile playing its part.
Right then, the banquet hall doors were flung open.
Everyone’s gaze was directed toward the entrance.
Jacqueline had arrived..
The surroundings were eerily silent.
Eileen cast a frantic glance at the man beside her. Instantly, a gloomy aura emanated from him, and his face contorted.
Yvette followed behind Jacqueline nervously. To hide the Blake hair on her head, she wore a hat. She was dressed in formal attire and held a gift in her Blake-gloved hands. Dressed like an elegant lady of high society, she walked toward them.
Facing him, Jacqueline felt nervous and was on the verge of tears. Her child had grown up.
He was even engaged.
She held out the gift box in her hand. “Jasper, I’m sorry for being late. I’ve prepared an engagement gift for you. It’s something I’ve specially prepared for you. I hope you and Eileen will like it.”
Jasper, Eileen… Mom has been meticulously preparing this gift for a long time.”
She opened it to reveal a set of porcelain dinnerware. These were items that outsiders could hardly obtain.
Everyone gasped in surprise.
However, in the very next second, everything was knocked to the ground by Jasper’s raised hand.
His face was gloomy and cold. “Who asked you to come? Get lost!”
He didn’t show any mercy.
Eric sat leisurely in his seat, taking a sip of the coffee in his hand. His expressions were concealed, with just a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth.
The previously joyful atmosphere was instantly shrouded by a cloud of gloom. Most spectators, engrossed in the unfolding drama, dared not utter a sound.
The smile on Jacqueline’s face faded away, replaced by a profound sadness in her eyes.
Yvette quickly reacted and stood up to say, “It was Eileen who asked us to come. I just called her a while ago. As she spoke, she looked at Eileen. “Eileen, did you forget to tell my brother that my mom and I would be coming?”
Eileen looked at Jasper, whose face was twisted, and couldn’t utter a single word.

Yvette’s voice of reproach rose again. “How could you not tell him about such a big matter? Now it has caused such a mess. Eileen… what were you thinking? Do you have any idea how valuable this gift is?”
Jacqueline forced a smile and said, “It’s okay. Eileen probably didn’t do it on purpose. She might have forgotten while greeting the guests. Jasper, if you don’t like the gift that I have prepared for you, I will get
you a new one.”
No sooner had the words been spoken than a crisp sound echoed throughout the banquet hall.
The slap landed hard on Yvette’s face, the sound of it indicating no lack of force.
Yvette’s vision went dark. She covered her face, taking a long time to regain her composure.
Vera, standing to the side, jumped in fright. She leaned toward Eric. “Eric, there won’t be any trouble, right?”
Will gave Vera a warning glance.
Vera was so frightened that she immediately shut her mouth.
“What gives you the authority to criticize her actions? Be mindful of your words and apologize!” Jasper stared at Yvette intently.
Yvette bit her l*p, avoiding eye contact and remaining silent.
Jacqueline interjected, “Jasper is right. Yvie, apologize to Eileen immediately.”
Yvette retorted, “Why should I apologize to her? I absolutely refuse!”
Eileen quickly pulled Jasper aside. The current situation was becoming too hostile, and it was not benefiting anyone.
She furrowed her brows and glanced at Yvette, then at Jasper. “I was indeed at fault in this matter. I…”
She struggled to find the right words.
“I truly agreed to it. It’s my fault that Mrs. Friedman is present at our engagement party today. I forgot to inform you. Can you please not be angry?”
Eileen hadn’t anticipated Yvette’s disregard for her words.
Jasper turned to the person beside him, gazing deeply at her. Despite the lingering sadness in his eyes, his icy demeanor had softened somewhat. However, his voice still carried a cold, stern tone as he instructed, “Fabian, please arrange the seating.”
