Chapter 270 Hide Your Weaknesses
Did Vera attempt suicide? Eileen couldn’t help but speculate.
Before she had a chance to say hello, Vera was rushed to the hospital.
Eileen had never seen her in such a disheveled and weak state before. If she hadn’t seen it with her own eyes, she wouldn’t have believed it. Vera has always been the person Eric cherishes the most. Eric wouldn’t bear to see her get hurt.
The sound of Jasper’s voice brought Eileen back to reality. “Do you want to go take a look?”
Eileen shook her head. “No need. They will handle it well.”
That was their business, and she didn’t want any part in it.
Whether Vera had attempted suicide or not, it no longer had anything to do with her.
This time, Vera’s wound was deeper than before.
The nurses tending to Vera’s wounds all frowned deeply. A new cut had been made on the original wound. Vera, already frail, had a second wound so deep that the bone was visible. The sharp blade directly cut the original stitches, leaving threads embedded in the flesh.
The nurse let out a sigh. “Life is priceless, young lady. By hurting yourself like this, can you imagine how heartbroken your boyfriend would be?”
There had been quite a few suicide incidents, but very few had harmed themselves to that extent.
Vera smiled when she heard the nurse calling Eric her boyfriend. She affectionately held the hand of the man next to her, her gaze also turning toward him. “Yes. He has always been very caring towards me. This time, I was just too impulsive.”
At that moment, Vera was simply unrecognizable compared to the lady who was hysterically crying and shouting at Eric earlier that morning.
The nurse chided Eric, “You should pay more attention to your girlfriend in the future. If she can’t be saved next time, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
Eric wore a gloomy expression, echoing in agreement.
Vera spoke up for Eric. “It’s not his fault. It’s all on me. Eric, I’m thirsty. Could you pour me a gla*s of water, please?”
Eric complied, going to the water dispenser to pour her a cup of warm water.
Vera was chatting with the nurse about something. By the time Eric came over, the nurse had already left.
Eric placed a gla*s of water in front of her and also put a straw in the gla*s.
“Eric, will you feed me the drink, please?”
Eric held the water cup to her l*ps. Vera’s mouth curved into a slight smile. “Did you treat Eileen the same way, showing her such meticulous care? Eileen is soon to be engaged to someone else. Eric paused at the door, and he chose to stay.

Vera was hooked up to an infusion bottle. When Eric’s phone rang, she insisted that he not answer it.
Vera sat in Eric’s embrace, her eyes fixed on the name shown on the phone screen. It was a call from Will.
“Eric, aren’t you going to answer?” She fiddled with the obsidian shirt button on his chest.
“Don’t move.” Eric held her hand, and in front of her, he answered the phone. “Father?”
Eric still pushed her away, pulling free from the hand that was tightly gripping his arm, and walked out onto the balcony.
Their voices were not loud during their conversation, but she could faintly hear some of it. It wasn’t until he closed the door that she heard Yvette’s name.
Will said, “This is one of the few opportunities for you to build your network in the business world. Going to Atharia for management training can only be beneficial. Don’t worry about your position. I’ve already -taken care of it.”
Eric then asked, “Is this your decision or the Friedman family’s?”
“She is the future heiress of the Friedman family, and you are my son. I will always prioritize your development over Eileen’s. I hope you won’t waste my painstaking efforts. This matter is settled. After Eileen gets engaged to the Smith family, you will go to Atharia with Yvette for half a year of training and then return. As for the company, I will temporarily hand it over to Fabian. Eric held her, gently comforting her, and said, “I’ve never considered abandoning you, Vera… I’ll never leave you.
Vera said, “Then, will you promise to stop pursuing Eileen and not to leave with Yvette, okay?”
Eric’s voice softened. “Alright.”
Zachary arrived at the doorway just in time to witness this poignant scene. Seeing the approaching nurse, he placed his finger on his l*ps, signaling her to remain silent. When it comes to dealing with women, I am truly lacking compared to this beast. Can he really give up on Eileen?
