Eric frowned with displeasure. “Who killed him?”
The man hunched over and said, “I saw the car. It seemed to belong to the Smith family. Ms. Eileen almost fell into Brett’s hands. I saw someone shoot him straight away. Good heavens, his brains were blown out.”
They no longer acted as openly and uprightly as they used to, having toned down their behavior considerably.
The authorities were strict then, dafing to take people down right in the streets. Apart from the Smith family, no one else would dare to do so.
“What do we do now that the Smith family is involved in this matter? Moreover, Ms. Eileen almost got hurt. If Mr. Swan finds out, we definitely won’t get away with it.”
With an expressionless face, Eric slowly began to say, “I will handle this matter myself. Have the other two been found?”
The lackey replied nervously, “One of them, the last time we pursued him, his car overturned and fell off a cliff. We haven’t found the b*dy yet. It’s likely been blown to pieces. The other one… We heard that he smuggled himself into North Manchernius, a place in the Golden Triad where all kinds of people mix. There are forces there that make it difficult for us to act.”
“Keep someone on his tail,” Eric ordered.
“Yes.”
Eric lowered his gaze, lost in thought. Why was Brett near the school?

Jasper took her back to the Smith residence. All the way there. Eileen was filled with trepidation, her fear only growing belatedly.
Upon returning home, a housekeeper immediately brought over a cup of water.

Eileen’s l*ps were pale as she leaned into his embrace, seated on the sofa. Jasper then told all the housekeepers to leave.
“All right. Everything is fine now. From now on, I won’t let you be alone again. I can’t even imagine what I’d do if I lost you,” Jasper said.
In a soft and gentle voice, Eileen gradually calmed down and asked, “How is Natalie? Is she all right?”
Jasper said, “Fabian said she’s fine, just a bit shaken up. She’ll be okay after a night’s rest. If you’re scared, talk to me. How did the exam go today? Are you confident?”
Eileen nodded. “Not too bad.”
“Okay. I’ve already spoken to Professor Combs about your application. Among this batch of candidates, you’re quite impressive and there’s a high chance you’ll be accepted.”
“If it’s true, I’d be overjoyed. But if I was accepted only because you granted me special privileges, then I’d still be a laughingstock at that school.”
“Do you really have such little faith in yourself? Or are you just convinced that I would behave that way?”
Eileen looked at the vase on the coffee table. “Because you’ve been so good to me, always ready to help me with anything, but can you not interfere this time? I want to get in on my own merit. If I don’t pa*s, I can still go to Hulbury University. If one path doesn’t work, I’ll take another. Life is full of endless possibilities, and no matter what, what I want to do will never change.”
Jasper’s handsome, thin l*ps curved into a smile as he nodded. “Yes. No matter what, I will always support my future wife!”
They didn’t know how long they had been talking, their conversation flowing from what they would cat tomorrow to their engagement trip after graduation.
By the time Jasper looked down at her, she had already fallen asleep.
It seemed she hadn’t slept well. Her eyebrows furrowed. Her long, waterfall-like black hair, shining brilliantly, covered her face. He reached out to brush it aside, planting a k*ss on her l*ps. Afterward, Jasper gently lifted her into his arms, carrying her back to the master bedroom where he resided upstairs.
These days, they practically lived together, sharing the same bed. There were no excessive gestures. Just holding her was enough to fill his heart with contentment. She is still young now. We’ve waited for so long, 30 a little longer won’t make a difference.
In the middle of the night, Eileen felt as if she had exploded into a furnace. When she woke up, she felt a hand confined around her waist, her back pressed against a heat source, as if she had taken a bath in water, her clothes soaked with sweat.
Not wanting to disturb him, she carefully lifted the corner of the blanket. Eileen, wearing her sl*ppers. returned to her room and took a cold shower. After changing into fresh clothes, she felt much better. Her long, slender legs were exposed, and she wore a long, short-sleeved top, just enough to cover her hips.
Suddenly, the phone charging on the bedside table rang. Eileen, curious about who would call her so late. thought it might be Natalic. As she wiped her hair with one hand, she walked over and picked up the phone with the other to see who was calling.

Eileen had no intention of answering the call. As she was about to hang up, she noticed a bright light shining through the gap in the curtains. The ringtone of her phone was still sounding, and her heartbeat was rapidly increasing. She stared at the light filtering through the gap in the curtains.
As she walked past, her steps unconsciously slowed down. She pulled back the curtain and saw a familiar car parked at the door. Has he lost his mind? How dare he come to the Smith residence?
The ringing stopped, followed immediately by the sound of a message notification.
Eric texted: Come down!
Eileen felt trapped.
She kept her gaze fixed on the phone screen.
The fear of being controlled was spreading in her heart.
Two minutes pa*sed, and another message came through.
Eric texted: Don’t keep me waiting. I’m losing patience. You have three minutes.
Eileen’s hands trembled as she typed: I won’t come down.
She edited down the words in the dialogue box, but she didn’t send a single word.
The racing heart never seemed to calm down, and in the quiet room, one could almost hear the pulsating heartbeat echoing within the chest.
Even though only half a minute had pa*sed, it felt like an eternity.
Eileen’s fingers paused and tapped, finally sending him a message that read: It’s not convenient because he’s in my room. You should go back. We have nothing to talk about. Don’t come again next time.
After clicking send, she immediately blocked the phone number, her actions swift and decisive. The man sent her another message.
The man downstairs sat in his car, the high beams still on. His gloomy eyes were fixed on the building above, emitting a chilling aura.
When that lit lamp went out, Eric’s mouth curled up in a smile, mysterious and enigmatic.
