Chapter 44 She Wasn’t That Idle 

Derrick had been waiting until after eleven at night, but Kailey never 

came out. 

He stopped a young nurse and asked, “Is Dr. Campbell from your obstetrics and gynecology department still here?” 

The little nurse paused, “Dr. Campbell had already left.” 

“Didn’t they say there was an emergency that called her back to work overtime?” 

“Oh, you mean the one who had the miscarriage,” the young nurse said, “The heavy bleeding has been stopped, she’s been sent to the ICU. Now, the doctors from the ICU are in charge. Dr. Campbell has already left for the day.” 

“But I had been waiting at the door all along, and I didn’t see him.” 

The little nurse blinked, “I wouldn’t know about that, but we do have a side door in our hospital. She might have left through there.” 

She had left long ago. 

Specifically to avoid this place, I took the side door. 

Derrick gave a bitter smile and closed his eyes for a moment. 

The young nurse asked, “Are you looking for Dr. Campbell for something?”

“L…” Derrick paused, asking. “Did you just say that Dr. Campbell camer back because a pregnant woman had a major miscarriage bleeding?” 

“Correct.” 

“Was there a high probability of heavy bleeding in the case of a miscarriage?” 

“Not too big. I suppose. It varies from person to person.” 

“That… must have hurt, right?” 

The little nurse said. “Of course, tearing a piece of flesh from your stomach. how could it not hurt?” 

Derrick didn’t know how he had driven back. 

All the way, what echoed in his mind was the nurse’s words: “How could it not hurt to tear a piece of flesh from your stomach alive?” 

He recalled that afternoon when he rushed from the mountain all the way to the hospital entrance, the moment he saw her. 

She was wearing the oversized hospital gown, her face was so pale as if there was no blood color at all. If it weren’t for Eliana supporting her, she could have collapsed at any moment. 

How could it possibly not hurt? 

Her appearance clearly indicated that she was in so much pain that she couldn’t even speak properly. 

Fingerprint scanned, door opened.

A strong smell of takeout food hit me, it was greasy. 

Caylee was sitting on the sofa, holding a box of fried chicken, watching a variety show on TV. and laughing heartily 

“Why are you back so late?” She complained displeasedly, “Did Kailey contact you again?” 

Derrick couldn’t help but frown. “She’s not that idle.” 

Licking the sauce off her fingers, Caylee pouted, “Do you really think she’d just let go of a cash cow like you, who’s rich but gullible? I don’t buy it.” 

Derrick was extremely tired and wanted to sit on the sofa, but when he got closer, he realized that it was covered with her snacks. 

Fruit peels, melon seed shells, and remnants of snacks. 

He laughed in disbelief, “So this is why you wanted to replace the fabric sofa with a leather one?” 

Caylee didn’t mind: “It’s easier to clean this way. If the fabric gets dirty, it needs to be washed, but the leather just needs a wipe.” 

“Don’t eat on the sofa in the future, it can attract cockroaches.” 

“No, I just like eating while watching shows,” Caylee said, chin held high. “I’ve always been like this, you know that.” 

Derrick was left speechless. 

There was absolutely no place to sit on the sofa, so he got up and headed. towards the bedroom.

Caylee quickly stood up, stopping him, “Hey, Derrick, where are you going?” 

“I went to the bedroom to rest.” 

“No, you come here, accompany me to binge–watch the series.” 

“Caylee, I was tired.” 

“I don’t care, you used to do everything according to my wishes. Your would even skip class to go to the amusement park with me. What’s wrong with watching TV with me now? Did that Kailey say something to you again? Did you delete your Line? Did she call you? Did she badmouth me?” 

“There really wasn’t.” 

“I don’t believe it!” Caylee jumped off the sofa, not caring that her hands. were greasy from the snacks she had just eaten, and reached for hist phone. “I need to ch*ck your phone! She must have held a grudge because I went to the hospital to see her today, so she complained to 

you…” 

Derrick couldn’t take it anymore: “Can you stop bringing up Kailey in everything? She can’t even avoid us fast enough, let alone come looking for me again!”
