Cecelia, in the back seat, tilted suddenly. She quickly grabbed onto the handrest to steady herself.
Instantly, their car collided head–on with the other vehicle, producing a loud, jarring crash.
“Bang…”
The accident had become inevitable.
After the collision, their car crashed into the right–side guardrail. Due to its high speed, the other car fl*pped over and skidded on the ground for several meters before stopping.
After the intense collision, there was a brief silence inside the car. Both Verda and Cecelia had fallen into unconsciousness due to the accident.
Meanwhile, outside the hotel entrance, Petunia and Maggie had already gotten into their car. Both of them witnessed the accident happening.
Petunia exclaimed in shock, “That was the car Cecelia was in, right?”
“Yes.”
Maggie replied in a cold tone and instructed the driver, “Let’s go!”
Their car drove away. Petunia thought about calling the police, but in the end, she didn’t make the call.
Selfishness had taken hold of her heart. It would be better if Cecelia had a fatal accident, wouldn’t it? Then there would be one less obstacle for her.
Petunia and Maggie seemed indifferent, as if everything had nothing to do with them, and they left without offering help.

Receiving Cecelia’s call, Remington asked, “Cece, I’m taking Doris home first. I’ll wait for you at the Nelson family’s estate.”
“Remington, I had a car accident…”
“What? Where are you now?”
“Near the hotel…”

Cecelia’s tone was anxious. She had exited the car, opened the driver’s side door, and found Verda covered in blood, her injuries
severe.

Remington’s car suddenly made a U–turn in the middle of the road. and returned to the hotel.
When they arrived at the accident scene, police cars and
ambulances were already there. Some médical workers were lifting Verda out of the vehicle.
“Cece!”
Remington sprinted over to Cecelia.
“How is Verda?”
“He’s pretty badly hurt! I hope he’ll be okay,” Cecelia said with at heavy heart as she looked at Verda.
Remington glanced at Verda on the stretcher, his head covered in blood, clearly indicating the collision’s severity.
“Are you injured too?”
“I’m fine! We need to find out the cause of the accident!”
Cecelia had a scrape on her forehead, but compared to Verda’s injuries, hers seemed insignificant.

The ambulance first took Verda to the hospital, with Remington arranging for Fredric to accompany him. The police then

They also started looking into the information of the individuals involved in the other vehicle.
Remington had his people a**ist the police in their investigation, accessing the hotel’s surveillance footage to see what had happened during the accident.
“Come with me first!”
Remington supported Cecelia and helped her into the car. Doris noticed the blood on Cecelia’s forehead and grew worried. “Mommy, you’re bleeding!”
“I am okay.”
Cecelia held her daughter close, her mind still reeling from the recent accident. If Verda hadn’t reacted quickly, they might not have survived the crash.
Remington let his mother care for Doris at the Nelson family’s estate. He then helped Cecelia tend to her wounds.
He carefully treated her minor injuries and asked, “Luckily, they’re only minor cuts on the surface. Do you feel anything else?”
“No, I’m fine. I need to go to the hospital to check on Verda.”
“Alright, I’ll go with you.”
The two of them immediately headed to the hospital. They entered the emergency room and saw Fredric waiting outside.
“How’s he doing?” Remington asked.
“He’s already been taken in for emergency treatment,” Fredric told them.
For now, all they could do was wait.
After waiting for over an hour, the emergency surgery was finally completed. Cecelia was the first to rush over when they saw the doctor coming out.
“Doctor, how is the patient doing now?”
The doctor told Cecelia. “The patient suffered a severe head injury

After sharing the information, the doctor left. Cecelia said with a heavy heart. “Verda did his best to prevent the accident. What if he doesn’t wake up?”
“Don’t worry too much. He’ll wake up.”
Remington rea**ured her.
After waiting another ten minutes, nurses wheeled Verda out of the emergency room and into the ICU.
Seeing Verda’s head wrapped in bandages, Cecelia sighed deeply, praying for him and hoping he would wake up soon.
“Cecelia!”
Hearing someone call her, Cecelia turned her head and saw Shepard approaching. “Shepard.”
“Why are you all here? Who got into an accident?”
Shepard walked closer and greeted everyone with nods.
“We had an accident just now. My subordinate, Verda, was seriously injured and had surgery.”
“Did you get injured too?” Shepard noticed the wound on Cecelia’s forehead.
“Just a minor cut.”
Shepard looked serious. “You’d better get checked out to rule out the risk of concussion.”
Cecelia felt it might not be necessary, but Shepard and Remington advised her to do so. “Just have a check–up to put our minds at ease. I’ll go with you.”
And so Cecelia got an X–ray done as well. After Shepard examined the results and confirmed that her brain was fine, everyone felt relieved.
Remington received a call and said, “Cece, they’ve found out some information over there. I need to go take a look.
“Okay! Go ahead!”
Cecelia stayed with Shepard while Remington left the hospital.

Everest, who had received the news, rushed to the hospital with the children.
When they saw Cecelia, the children gathered around. “Mommy, are you okay?”
“I am fine.”
Everest, with a worried expression, asked, “Cecelia, how’s Verda?”
“He’s had emergency surgery and is now in the ICU.”
Cecelia turned towards the ICU ward. Everest and the children walked up to the gla** window, looking inside.
A bitter concern rose in her heart as Everest saw Verda wrapped in bandages.
Despite their playful bickering and his frequent jokes, he was the man who treated her the best and warmed her heart the most.
She didn’t want anything to happen to him; she hoped he would wake up soon.
“Why did the accident happen all of a sudden?” Everest, her eyes. redɗening, asked Cecelia.
Before Cecelia could answer, Remington’s call came in. “Cece, we’ve figured out the cause of the accident. You won’t believe who did it!”
