I shook my head, speaking softly, “I won’t go back on what I promised you initially. I just want to confirm, the reason you want me to divorce Walter.”
She turned cold, her face showing little patience, and said, “I’ve said it before, the daughter-in-law of the Hinton family must be clean. Your father deceived us years ago, which made me very angry. If it weren’t for your decent behavior in the Hinton family over the past two years, I would not have let it go. I nodded, opening my mouth to say, “Yeah, it’s been six weeks now, this child came as a surprise to me. I’m not a person who breaks promises, what I promised you, I’ve always kept in mind. Since my dad left, I’ve been thinking about divorcing Walter, but I didn’t expect to suddenly become pregnant. As an elder, I respect you, and I think, like me, you don’t want this child in my belly to face an incomplete home after birth, right?”

She became even more confused, “Why? Aren’t you biological sisters? Why would she do such a thing? What’s the reason?”
I pursed my l*ps, took a slight breath and said, “Five years ago, I couldn’t understand why she treated me this way. But after my father pa*sed away, I understood why she did it. She was not the daughter of the Conner family, she was just a child my mother had taken in out of kindness many years ago.”
Carley was probably stunned by my successive messages, remaining silent for a while. She looked at me incredulously and said, “Are you saying. Ashley is not the biological daughter of the Conner family?”
I nodded. My parents had never spoken about this matter to outsiders. Most of the people who knew about it were now either dead or had moved to other cities. Naturally, no one knew that Ashley was not actually the daughter of the Conner family.
After a long while, Carley let out a deep sigh, “In that case, what you just said does make sense. An adopted daughter becoming jealous and wanting to harm her biological sister, such things are not uncommon. This woman, Ashley, she may seem weak, but she’s not exactly kind- hearted. She’s capable of doing such things.”
Regarding Carley’s evaluation of Ashley, I didn’t comment. For someone like Ashley, there was no longer a need to judge her good or bad.
After a long silence, Carley looked up at me and said, “So, you were framed five years ago, but why have you kept silent for these five years? Haven’t you explained to anyone what happened back then?”
