Chapter 237 Hiding the Body after Murder
With a slight purse of my l*ps, I didn’t want to speculate on his actions. Calmly, I said, “You don’t have to waste your time escorting me.” Regardless of his sudden attentiveness towards me for whatever reason, I didn’t need it.
Speaking bluntly, his face stiffened as he looked at me. After a few seconds of being stunned, the gloom on his face faded slightly, replaced by a hint of barely noticeable panic as he said, “That’s not what I meant.”
I didn’t say much, just opened my mouth and said, “I’m sorry for taking up your whole morning, I have something to do later, I won’t have time to invite you for lunch.”
Having said that, I turned around, ready to leave.
He grabbed my wrist, causing me to frown in annoyance. Without turning to look at him, I simply asked. “Is there anything else?”
Seeming to sense my displeasure, he said in a somewhat low voice, “Don’t get too close to Daniel in the future.”
Suppressing the displeasure in my heart, I turned back to look at him, my face expressionless, “Walter, we’re divorced. Divorce means there’s no reason for us to interfere with each other anymore. Who I get too close to is my freedom.”
His brows were deeply furrowed, his eyes fixed on me, his voice somewhat heavy. But a few seconds later, he said somewhat weakly, “I’m not trying to interfere with you, I just want to remind you that Daniel is not a good person. I hope you can protect yourself.”
I originally thought that we would end up arguing again this time, but to my surprise, he didn’t get angry. Instead, he calmly explained things
to me.
The displeasure I had been holding back for quite a while had.
dissipated at this point. After a pause, my voice was not as harsh as I said, “I understand.”
Seeing this, he nodded and let go of me, looking at me and saying, “Go on, work hard.”
I was momentarily unaccustomed to his way of interaction, I gave a slight nod and turned to enter the Conner Group.

Walter’s sudden change left me with an indescribable feeling.
After zoning out for a while, Cory reported to me about work for a bit, then reminded me that there was a dinner party to attend in the evening. Originally, Alexander was supposed to handle it, but he wasn’t in River City, so naturally, I had to step in.
After Cory left, my phone rang. It was a call from Captain Lucas.
As soon as the call connected, I said, “Captain Lucas…”
Before I could even utter my greetings, the voice on the other end said, “Ms. Conner, is Henry dead or not, just give it to me straight,”
I was stunned, his question made my heart skip a beat. I hesitated for a few seconds, then into the phone, I said, “Captain Lucas, what’s wrong? Has something happened?”
Through the phone, I couldn’t see his expression, but I could sense that he seemed a bit worried as he said, “Half an hour ago, someone came to visit Ashley. As soon as they left, Ashley claimed that she was

going to report you for murder and hiding the b*dy.”
Murder and hide the b*dy?
I frowned, “Who went to see Ashley?”
He sighed. “A man who calls himself Robinson, do you know him?”
Robinson?
I didn’t know at all.
On the phone, I said, “Captain Lucas, did you call me because.”
I didn’t say what came next, but I had a rough idea.
Captain Lucas grunted, “After all, it involves a murder case. The criminal police have already gone to the Conner Group to find you. I called you because I wanted to confirm, is Henry really dead? Tell me the truth. If he is dead, I need to send someone to find the b*dy for investigation as soon as possible, otherwise I’m worried…..”
“Someone tried to frame me over this?” I spoke into the phone.
“Um!” He began, pausing before continuing, “And there’s the Hinton family. After all, you are Walter’s wife. If news breaks out that Mrs. Hinton of the Hinton family has committed murder and hidden the b*dy, it would be very difficult to control the situation.”
Did you lend me to suppress the Hinton family?
I frowned, Ashley indeed hated me, but this matter…
I couldn’t guarantee whether it would involve the Hinton family or not.
“Ms. Conner,” the urging voice of Captain Lucas came from the other end of the phone.

Holding the phone, I was momentarily unsure of how to make a decision. The matter now involved more than just me. Sebastian was the one who hid the b*dy, so he would be dragged into this.
Taking a deep breath, I said, “I didn’t kill Henry.”
I had just finished speaking when silence fell on the other end, even the sound of breathing was almost non-existent. After a long while, Captain Lucas finally said, “Is he really dead?”
“Mm!”
“Where was the b*dy?”
“I don’t know,” I began, continuing, “I only know that he’s dead.”
There was a pause on the other end of the phone, and just as I was about to speak, my office door was knocked. Before I could ask who it was, the door was pushed open. Several men in police uniforms came in, holding their badges and said, “Ms. Conner, we are from the River City Homicide Squad. You are suspected of a murder case. We need you to come with us to a*sist in our investigation.”
