Chapter 121 My Illness
I nodded, ready to go back to the kitchen to eat.
He stopped me, looked at me, and said seriously, “Are you serious this time?”
I nodded, somewhat puzzled by his reaction, and couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong with you? What does my divorce with Walter have to do with you necessarily?”
He grunted, took a deep breath and said, “It matters a lot. If you get divorced, I’ll have to take care of you for the rest of my life.”
I couldn’t help but frown, finding his words rather strange. I retorted, “What are you thinking? My divorce is my business. You’re the CEO of the Conner Group, not my father. Why would you need to take care of me for the rest of my life?”
After speaking, I tilted my head to look at Olivia, who was busy at the side of the dining table, nudged his arm and asked, “What do you think of Olivia?”
He looked bewildered, “What do you mean? We’re discussing your issue right now. Also, I heard your phone call earlier, I have to go with you to Chesterburg.”
“No!” I blurted out, looking at him, “If you go to Chesterburg with me, who will manage the Conner Group? What’s the point of me going to Chesterburg if you’re not holding down the fort at the Conner Group? Alexander, don’t hold me back.”
He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but was interrupted by Olivia who had just ran out. Seeing the two of us seemingly in
conversation, Olivia asked in confusion, “What are you talking about? It’s time to eat, the bowls and chopsticks are all ready. Talk while eating at the table.”
After speaking, she didn’t care whether Alexander was willing or not, she took my hand and Alexander’s hand and entered the hall.
After dinner, I went back to my room and called Cory to arrange the trip to Chesterburg.
When my mother came, she saw me daydreaming by the window. All the windows on the balcony were open, and the cold wind filled the entire room.
Seeing me standing motionless by the window with my arms crossed, she yelled in exasperation, “Tabatha, what on earth are you doing? Don’t you know you’ve just had a miscarriage? Don’t you want to have children in the future?”
She was talking about me while hurriedly closing all the windows, turning on the heating in the room, pulling me to sit on the lounge chair, and wrapping me in a thick blanket.
“How are you? Did you get frostbite?” My mother nagged, feeling around to see if I had any frost damage, her face full of concern.
Knowing she was worried about me, I looked at her and shook my head slightly, saying, “Mom, I’m fine, don’t worry.”
She looked at me, her face full of heartache, gripping my hand tightly and said, “Tabatha, if there’s anything, just say it. Don’t keep it to yourself You mustn’t do anything to harm yourself, do you hear me? Your father is gone If any thing happens to you, I won’t be able to go on Do you understand?”
I nodded, took a slight breath, and rea*sured her. “Mom, I’m really okay, I just want to clear my head a bit “Over the years, I’ve gotten
used to treating myself this way after encountering problems. Only by enduring some physical discomfort can my heart feel less distressed.
Apart from this, I had no other way to alleviate my pain.
Seeing my mother so heartbroken, I felt somewhat guilty. Holding her hand, I said, “Mom, I will take good care of myself.”
Tears glistening in her eyes, she shook her head, “Child, you must look forward in life, no matter what, remember, mom can’t be without you, you can’t ruin yourself, understand? Whether it’s marriage or children, you’ll have them in the future, don’t let your mind wander, understand?”
I nodded and smiled at my mother, “Mom, I understand.”
She prattled on beside me, saying a lot. I knew she was worried about me. I was somewhat tired from listening, so I leaned drowsily against the armchair and dozed off.
Perhaps seeing that I had fallen asleep, my mother didn’t continue to nag. She just pulled the blanket over me and let out a soft sigh.

to someone.

I leaned back in the armchair and slowly opened my eyes.

That night, I didn’t sleep well.
Cory’s flight was scheduled for noon. After Alexander hurriedly took me to the airport and met with Lucas, he watched as we boarded the plane.
