Chapter 157 It Was Love at First Sight
“Remember what you said today. If you insisted on putting yourself in harm’s way, no one would be able to save you.”
Alaia assured Levi multiple times before leaving the office.
After Alaia departed, Levi stared out the window with a frozen expression on his face. He became lost in thought and didn’t even notice when Jason entered.
“Mr. Rivera?”
Levi shifted his gaze back and asked, “What’s going on?”
Jason honestly stated, “Recently, I’ve discovered that there is someone aggressively acquiring a large number of shares of our company. I think there must be something behind it.”
“Have you found anything during your investigation?”
“They are being extremely cautious and hasn’t leaked any information. But our team is closely monitoring them. Once they make another move, we will surely find some leads.”
“Hmm, do not alert them.”
“Yes, Mr. Rivera.”
After discussing work, Levi changed the topic and asked, “When Gianna used to work in our company, did she have any colleagues that she was particularly close to?”
Jason glanced at Levi before replying, “Ms. Lewis was serious, meticulous, and had excellent interpersonal skills with her colleagues. But as for being particularly close to someone, there wasn’t anyone of that sort.”
Levi was a little disappointed.
“Alright, you can go back to your business.”
Jason couldn’t figure out Levi’s thoughts, but he could clearly sense that Levi had been paying extra attention to Gianna recently.
In the executive office on the top floor of Empyrean Group, Gianna had just finished a video conference with a multinational conglomerate when there was a knock at the door.
“Come in.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, Maverick walked in with a cheerful smile.
“Gianna, here are two documents that require your signature.”
Gianna was helpless.
She had corrected Maverick many times about how she preferred to be addressed, but he continued to do as he pleased.
“Could you change the way you address me in the company?”
Maverick grinned mischievously and said, “Gianna, if you want me to change how I address you,
it’s not impossible. Unless you agree to watch a movie with me this weekend.”
Gianna was speechless.
She took the documents he handed over and flipped through them.
After confirming that everything was fine, she signed her name.
“Gianna, if you don’t enjoy watching movies, we can do something else.”

Gianna sighed and said, “Are you free all the time? If you are, you should focus more on business matters.”
She didn’t want Maverick to keep pestering her.
Since Maverick’s return, he had been asking her the same questions every day, meals, shopping, movies, and dates.
She genuinely had no interest, but Maverick seemed undeterred by her rejections. He would ask her the same questions the next day.
“Gianna, rest assured. With me around, the company’s performance will only skyrocket. As a reward, can’t I have a date with you?”
Gianna sighed helplessly and explained, “I have just gone through a divorce.”
Maverick seemed nonchalant and replied, “I know.”
Gianna looked serious. “I have no plans to remarry for the time being.”
Maverick nodded slightly and continued, “That’s fine, I can wait.”
Seeing that he wasn’t getting the message, Gianna resorted to a final attempt. “You’re not my type.”
To her surprise, Maverick leaned in with a smirk and said, “Then tell me what your type is. I’ll become that for you.”
Gianna was genuinely taken aback by his persistence. “Maverick, why do you have to like me?” Maverick chuckled self–deprecatingly and replied, “There was no why. It was love at first sight.”
