Chapter 289 The Reason For The Change

Just as Bernice was about to stop him, Finnegan raised his hand. “Bernie, since your cousin has said so, I must drink this wine.”

Furrowing her brows. Bernice had no choice but to close her mouth.
Yet, there was a faint unease in her heart.
She felt that Millicent and the others didn’t seem to be genuinely apologizing that night.
She kept feeling as if there was some sort of conspiracy going on.
Following Bishop, he began to toast Finnegan in apology, even offering three cups in one go.
In response. Finnegan did not refuse and drank it all.
Then, Sapphire raised a glass of red wine to toast Finnegan.
Seeing Finnegan down four shots of vodka in such a short time, and that too in two-ounce glasses, Bernice couldn’t help but utter again, “Timothy, Queenie, maybe you guys should call it quits?”
“How could I do that?” Timothy gestured to Queenie to refill Finnegan’s empty wine glass, all the while speaking in a jovial tone. “I was the one who suggested toasting and apologizing one by one. How could I possibly back out now?”
Raising his wine glass toward Finnegan, he said, “Come Let me toast you three times. From this moment on, we are family.”
Bernice’s expression tightened slightly. “Finnegan?”
It seemed like Finnegan had drunk too much. His face was somewhat flushed.
Hearing Bernice calling him, he waved his hand and said, “It’s okay, I can handle it. Besides, everyone’s having a good time. How could I possibly dampen the mood?”
Raising the wine glass, he stood up and said, “Come on. Let’s down three glasses in a row!”
Before long, Finnegan had finished the three cups of apology wine that Timothy had poured for him.
By then, seven cups had been drunk, amounting to one liter and two hundred milliliters.
If it were a matter of a longer time, perhaps it wouldn’t be much of an issue. But having to drink in such a short amount of time, Finnegan seemed a bit shaky.
Seeing Queenie also raising her wine glass, Bernice took Finnegan’s wine glass first and said, “Queenie, Finnegan and I are engaged, so it’s the same if I drink on his behalf. I’ll accept your apology on behalf of Finnegan, and I’ll drink this glass of wine first!”

Before anyone could react, Bernice tilted her head back and finished the drink in her glass.
Due to her haste, coupled with the fact that it was vodka, she coughed a few times, her cheeks flushing a bright red.
Upon seeing that, Queenie drank the red wine in her hand and said, “Of course you can!”
Millicent uttered at the right moment. “Now that everyone has had their drinks and said their pieces, let’s not dwell on the past. From now on, we are all one family. Queenie, serve some more dishes to Finnegan. He seems to have had too much to drink.”
Queenie nodded. “Understood, Grandmal”
At the subsequent meal, everyone ate as if they were a reunited family, chatting leisurely and drinking wine, creating a particularly harmonious atmosphere.
As it neared past nine, the end was in sight. Millicent patted Finnegan’s hand, asking, “Are you okay?”
Bishop and his family were watching intently as if they were expecting something.
Finnegan shook his head and said, “I’ve had a bit too much to drink. I’m feeling dizzy!”
Millicent chuckled. “It seems you really have had too much to drink. You should stay in tonight and sleep at home with Bernic. I’ll have Tim escort you back to your room.”
Bruce nodded. “Yes. Sleep here tonight. Bernie, you’ve been drinking, too. You can’t drive!”
Yet, Bernice felt a certain repulsion inside her. Something about that night’s dinner didn’t sit right with
her.
When Bruce spoke up, all she could do was nod in agreement.
Bruce called out to Timothy, “You should first escort Finnegan to his room to rest, then come back. I have something to discuss with you.”
Upon hearing that Bruce had something to say, Sapphire and her daughter, who were about to stand up. sat back down.
Soon, Timothy returned after escorting Finnegan to his room.
Millicent asked, “We’ve all apologized to Finnegan as you wished, and we’ll get along well in the future. Is there anything else you want to say?”
Bruce frowned and glanced at her without responding. Instead, he turned to Bernice. “How much do you know about Finnegan? Apart from his connections with the Wahlstrom and Langdon families, is there anything else special about him?“
She wondered why Bruce suddenly asked that question, but Bernice shared everything she knew. “Apart from the network of relationships with the Wahlstrom und Langdon families, the Miles family gifted a mansion, and the Haimowitz family gifted a car. Additionally, Finnegan also has a good relationship with the Wright family
Bruce and others were unaware of the relationship between Finnegan and the Wright family.

Hearing that, Queenie couldn’t help but express surprise. “Finnegan has connections with the Wright. family? Where did that come from? That’s the top family in Nuthana, the Wright family, that can decide the fate of the wealthy with just a word!”
Millicent and the others’ eyes widened because this news was quite shocking.
Bernice shared everything that Finnegan had previously told her, as well as some things she had roughly learned from Rhiannon. For instance, it seemed that Finnegan’s good relationship with the Wright family was due to him curing Waylynn.
After hearing that, Bruce exclaimed, “I never imagined that Finnegan’s network of connections would reach such an astonishing level! I was truly shortsighted before.
Millicent felt the same way. “What’s so great about Liam? He’s nothing compared to Finnegan!”
After a pause, he asked further, “By the way, did Finnegan ever tell you why he has the South-North Badge of Martial Arts Alliance? What is his relationship with Martial Arts Alliance?”
Everyone was equally curious about that question, their eyes all focused intently on Bernice.
Bernice shook her head and said. “Finnegan didn’t mention it. But based on my guess, he must have treated a high-ranking member of Martial Arts Alliance before, just like how he cured Old Mr. Langdon. and Old Mr. Wahlstrom, and even saved the life of the wealthiest man, Mr. Miles!”
Timothy asked with a puzzled expression. “Is being skilled in medicine really that beneficial? Can it actually attract the attention of top-notch big shots?”
“Of course!” Bruce responded with profound meaning “After all, even the most elite bosses are helpless when facing death, but a skilled doctor can keep them alive. What’s the use of having great power and wealth that rivals a nation if it can’t save your life when it truly matters?”
Timothy suddenly seemed smarter. “Grandpa, so is this why you changed your opinion about Finnegan. and even told us to be nicer to him? Because you saw all of this?”
Bruce snorted. “What else could it be? It’s just a pity that you all have wooden heads, causing trouble during the opening of Jerome Medical Clinic.”
That statement made Millicent feel quite awkward. After all, she was the one who instigated the events that day.
Luckily, she had a thick skin. She laughed off Bruce’s words. “All right. Let’s not talk about the past, You wouldn’t take it to heart, would you, Bernie?”
Discussing the reasons for their changed attitudes toward Finnegan right in front of her made Bernice feel a touch of bitterness in her heart.
This indicated that the Zimmerman family’s change of attitude toward Finnegan was merely a of his value.

Everyone turned their gaze toward Bruce, unsure of what decision he would make at that moment.
Bruce didn’t beat around the bush and revealed the decision he had been contemplating over the past few days. “I’ve decided to hand over the entire Zimmerman family to Patrick and Bernice in a while, including the shares of Firebird Group. From now on, Patrick is the head of the Zimmerman family. You all must listen to him and his daughter.”
