Chapter 60 You Can Keep It If You Like

To Rebecca, her son was the most outstanding person in the world. Also, the position of the future matriarch of the Johnson family was something all the women in Verde City coveted.

And now, Natalie’s words had left her face red with anger.

‘Don’t you want it? Don’t you want to be with Ced?” Rebecca asked.

“It was he who begged me. Have you forgotten?” Natalie replied.

“You…” Rebecca was furious!

Natalie’s complete lack of respect and her willingness to talk back made Rebecca unsure of how to respond. She used to be able to vent her anger on Natalie, but now she couldn’t even say a word!

Rebecca seethed with anger, but Natalie remained unfazed.

“So, why did you summon me?”

Rebecca had even used Bianca to threaten Natalie, which indicated how furious the former was.

Slam!

Rebecca turned and threw a document folder directly in front of Natalie. Natalie raised an eyebrow and

looked at her but made no move to pick it up.

Rebecca angrily asked, “Tell me, what’s the deal with the eastern suburbs project?”

“Don’t you already know? Why bother asking again?”

It turned out to be about the eastern suburbs project.

The Johnson family had its people involved in every business, even with Cedric in charge. If something

happened within the company, Rebecca would be one of the first to know.

She knew that Natalie had worked with Irwin to submit the design draft for the eastern suburbs project.

The knowledge only fueled her anger further when she discovered that Cedric’s defeat had been at their

hands.

Rebecca glared at Natalie, her eyes burning with fury, She raised her hand to slap Natalie!

Natalie couldn’t react fast enough to avoid Rebecca’s hand, and her head snapped to the side from the

blow

A warm and slightly sweet taste filled her mouth.

Rebecca angrily roared in Natalie’s ear, “Who do you think you are?! Do you think you deserved it?!” 

Natalie remained silent.

“I may not have a high opinion of women like you, but you’re still married to Ced. Are you teaming up with outsiders to bring down our family?!”

Natalie continued to remain silent.

Rebecca, overwhelmed by anger, continued to hurl insults at Natalie.

“And look at yourself! Do you really think men out there are willing to go to such great lengths for you?”

Natalie closed her eyes.

When she looked at Rebecca again, all that remained was an icy coldness.

Her tone was devoid of even the last traces of disdain and sarcasm.

“Is this how your family thinks the world works?”

Rebecca had asked her if she deserved it?!

Every person on earth wasn’t bom with the ability to walk and run at birth.

No one was nobler than the other!

But over the years in the Johnson family, there had been too many such comments targeting Natalic.

In the past, Natalie didn’t have Stephen’s support, and Rebecca always saw herself as superior. Back then, Natalie truly believed she didn’t deserve Cedric.

As an orphan with nothing, how could she stand beside a pampered son of an outstanding family like him?

But ever since her rebirth, Natalie had come to understand that people are inherently equal.

In her previous life, her lack of self–confidence had been the reason for her insecurities with Cedric

Now, with her uncle behind her, she had gained a newfound self–assurance.

Rebecca pressed on, “What? You did something wrong, and you still have the nerve to find fault with my

character?”

“Your character? Hah!” Natalie coldly laughed.

The two of them glared at each other. Neither was willing to back down.

No one expected that Natalie, who had once been so respectful in this place, would display nothing but disdain and indifference in her dealings with these people.

Wanda entered once more, accompanied by Jocelyn.

Seeing the scene, she nervously announced, “Madam, Ms. Lambert is here.”

“Aunt,” Jocelyn greeted as she stepped forward to assist Rebecca, who had a grim expression.

There was no trace of the unease that had followed her awkward encounter with Natalie at Scarlet Villa the previous night. Her demeanor exuded nothing but composure.

Rebecca naturally adored a daughter–in–law like this. Even if Cedric were to have an affair in the future, Rebecca was sure Jocelyn could handle it as if it were nothing. She would be able to maintain composure and protect the Johnson family’s reputation.

“Look at Joyce!”

Without a point of comparison, there was no harm.

Watching Jocelyn’s concerned behavior, Rebecca couldn’t accept the current rebellious Natalie.

But Rebecca had forgotten…!.

She had forgotten that Natalie had previously also treated her like a queen, just as Jocelyn was doing

now.

Natalie turned around and said, “You can keep what you like!”

With that, she ignored Rebecca, who was now in the midst of a fit of anger. Without waiting for the older woman to say anything, Natalie headed for the exit.

Rebecca’s chest ached with anger.

“Look at her, just look! I’ve taught her for so many years, and she turns out like this!”

Natalie remained silent.

“A hillbilly will remain forever one! She’ll never become a refined lady!” The more Rebecca spoke, the

angrier she became.

Natalie listened to the insults from behind, and her l*ps curled up mockingly. She paid no attention and

simply walked away.

After Natalie had left, Jocelyn comforted Rebecca.

“It’s alright, Aunt. She’s going to divorce Ced. Why worry about what kind of person she is now?”

“Yes, you’re right. But just look at her! All my efforts over the years have been in vain.”

“Of course, you’ve been so good to her. It’s her own loss,” Jocelyn said, echoing Rebecca’s sentiments.

Rebecca’s anger towards Natalie was slightly eased, and she found herself liking Jocelyn more as time

passed.

However, the thought of Natalie teaming up with outsiders and causing such significant losses to the Johnson family’s businesses the day before still weighed heavily on her heart.

When Christina returned, she saw Jocelyn and Rebecca making desserts together.

From her perspective, the two were getting along perfectly

A touch of resentment crossed her delicate face!

She smoothed her curls and approached with a sugary, sweet tone, “Oh, Joyce! Did you come to keep

Mom company? That’s great!‘

Seeing Christina, Rebecca’s mood improved even further. She scolded, “Look at Joyce, she’s such at

darling! She comes to keep me company when she’s free, whereas you disappear all day!” 

“Mommy, are you saying I spend so little time with you? I haven’t even gone abroad for your sake,”

Christina approached and hugged Rebecca’s arm while acting cutely.

This gesture worked quite well with Rebecca. The annoyance in her eyes turned into indulgence.

“Oh, you and your honeyed words!”

Whenever Christina spoke like this, Rebecca became even more affectionate.

Even though she was just an adopted daughter, Rebecca had given her many good things. Among the

elite daughters, Christina received some of the very best items and treatment.

As a result, no one in their circle dared to look down on her despite being an adopted daughter.

Try it Jocelyn said and handed a freshly baked cookie to Christina.

Rebecca liked her adopted daughter, and she had good judgment. Although Christina didn’t have warm feelings for Jocelyn, she still behaved properly and elegantly in front of Rebecca.

Mmm it’s delicious!”

“Do you like it?”

I do! Thank you, Joyce!”

“In the future, she’ll be your sister–in–law!” Rebecca ruffled Christina’s soft curls and gently reminded her,

Rebecca was growing fonder of Jocelyn, who not only had a great appearance but was also tall. She was obedient to her elders, skilled in making desserts, and exuded all the qualities expected of an elite young

lady.

She had everything a family could want.
