Chapter 69

Shane nodded. “Yes, Mr. Barlow.”

Mayra had eaten a lot of mulberries from Gordon’s garden, and they had all been plucked straight from the tree. She climbed up the tree, then down again. She was tired, so she fell asleep on Gordon’s bed.

In the past, she had always made herself at home at Gordon’s house. She walked around freely, regardless of whether it was the master bedroom or the study.

She was breathing shallowly with a hand on the blanket. Mayra had her eyes. closed. The smell in the room made her sleep well.

Gordon was wearing an apron. He leaned back. “The kitchen is smokey. Go out. It’ll be ready soon.”

“Alright,” Mayra said.

After the shoot at 6:00 pm, the luxurious black Maybach made its way back to Fisher Residence. From the moment the photoshoot started until the end, Isabel could feel the sinister energy that Anderson was giving off. Although he betrayed no expression, he was still obviously unhappy.

Isabel said hesitantly, “Andy, if… you’re really worried, you’d better go and look

There were several people standing outside Fisher Residence. They were all

there to welcome Sean.

Isabel looked hopeful, but the light in her eyes dimmed when Sean spoke.

“I’m sorry, Isa. I’ll make it up to you next time.” Isabel had grown up with him, and she had always been destined to be his wife. As the future Mrs. Barlow and as the heiress of a prominent family, the first thing that she had been taught was to take things with grace.

Anderson liked women who knew when not to push their boundaries.

Isabel had hoped that he would walk in through the door with her, but… she could not tell him how she felt. The only thing she could do was to obey and

accommodate him.

She forced a smile. “Alright. Remember to bring Mayra with you next time. She’s part of your family, and she’s my younger sister too.”

After Isabel got out of the car, she watched it drive off. Only fumes of exhaust were left lingering behind.

The smile dropped off Alicia’s face at once. She walked over to Isabel and asked her with an icy expression on her face, “He was already at the door. Why did he drive off?”

Isabel explained, “Andy has urgent matters to attend to at the office, so he’s going back.”

She watched the car disappear into the darkness. Why had she expected anything else?

There were several relatives who had come to Fisher Residence because th

they thought that Anderson was coming. They all wanted to try and make friends.

The Fishers were insignificant compared to the Barlows, but the Fishers were an academic family, and Isabel had been chosen to be Anderson’s wife from a crowd of other heiresses.

So many relatives had come today, but Anderson hadn’t even bothered to get

out of the car and greet them. To onlookers, it was obvious that he did not care

about Isabel.

Isabel had to endure several scoldings.

“What the hell is this? Isabel, you’re Mrs. Barlow. How could he just leave without at least saying hello to his elders? Does he look down on our family?”
