Chapter 62
“If you leave, what will we tell Mr. Anderson when he gets back?”
Mayra hugged her backpack and smiled at her. “That has nothing to do with me. You wouldn’t even let me eat. When Andy gets back and finds out that I’m gone, he’ll know that you guys were the ones who chased me out. Just wait and suffer the consequences.”
“You…” The maid looked guiltily and angrily at her.
“Why is a young woman like you so evil? We only spoke the truth. You’re just an outsider, and we all have so many things to do. We can’t be bothered with you.
“Besides, we’re the maids that Ms. Fisher hired personally, and she’ll be the mistress of the mansion in the future. Mr. Anderson won’t fire us because of
an outsider.”
Mayra said, “If that’s the case and you’re not scared, why are you stopping me? You didn’t even let me eat. Did you think I was going to let myself just starve here?” Mayra swatted her hand away. “You venomous old hag, don’t block my path.”
Hadn’t it been satisfying to throw Mayra’s breakfast away?
Why was the maid panicking now?
Mayra ran out to Gordon and got into the back seat.
She had said all that on purpose because she didn’t want anyone to think that she was a pushover.
So what if she was an outsider? Anderson still treated her like a sister.
Anderson wouldn’t just ignore it if she was bullied.
When the cab drove off, Mayra sniffed and wiped away the tears in her eyes,
which were still red.
Before Gordon could ask, the driver said, “I didn’t think that you were so rich, young lady. You live in such a huge mansion. Are you running away because you fought with your family?”
Mayra replied, “That’s not my home. I’m an orphan, and my older brother
adopted me. I’ve only been staying here for a few days, but it isn’t my home, so it wouldn’t be good to keep staying there.
The driver nodded in agreement. “That’s true. Don’t worry, young lady. You’re a student. I won’t ask for a high fare, so you can just give me 15 dollars.”
Mayra took out her wallet, which had a lot of spare change in it. “It’s alright. My brother is nice to me, and he gave me quite a lot of money. I’ll pay the full fare.”
The driver laughed and said, “Your older brother is obviously very well off. I’ll take it, then, young lady. We’ll go according to the meter.”
“It’s alright. I’ll pay,” Gordon said.
Mayra looked at him. He was finally willing to speak.
She saw that he was dressed in work clothes and knew that he must have
been busy when she called him, but he had come at once.
Her eyes roved to the wood shavings that had fallen onto his collar.
The driver looked at the two of them in his rearview mirror. He smiled and said nothing. Young love.
Mayra was a little carsick, so she moved closer to him and leaned on his shoulder.
“Please drive slowly, Mister. I’m a little carsick.”
Gordon was extremely tense, and it made him very uncomfortable to lean on. He said, “I’m dirty.”
“I don’t care. I really feel terrible, Gordon.”
Gordon smelled like sweat, and he had an air of mature masculinity. He
gripped his pants tightly and did not dare to move at all. His skin was an
entirely different shade compared to Mayra’s. Hers was fair and soft while his was a bronze tan.
Mayra really was carsick, and she hadn’t had anything to eat that morning, which made her feel even worse.
