Chapter 61
Emily was at Paramount Hall.
The weather was pleasant, and she sat on a stool in the yard. She stared at the phone that was placed on the folding table. When she saw the incoming call, she hung up at once without even thinking.
Emily, turned back to look surreptitiously at the person bustling around in the kitchen. She gritted her teeth and grabbed his phone to look at it while Gordon was occupied. She caught a glimpse of Gordon’s wallpaper and saw that it was Mayra!
She did not have time to be shocked, so she deleted the call records at once….
Then, she put the phone back guiltily and stood up. “Gordon, you don’t have to go to so much trouble. I can eat anything for lunch. I’ll help you start a fire!”
“You don’t need to. You should go out!” Gordon said.
Emily put her hands behind her back and leaned forward. “We’re from the same school, so we’re pretty much classmates. Besides, I’m practically your neighbor. My parents are on a business trip, which is why I’m eating over here. I’ll feel guilty if I don’t do anything. Why don’t I help you wash the vegetables?”
“Whatever pleases you,” Gordon said.
Mayra sent a message: “Gordon, if I don’t have anywhere to go, will you take me in?”
Gordon had sharp ears, and he heard the sound of his phone vibrating. He put down the firewood that he was holding. His hands were stained black with ash, and as he got up, wood fragments fell all around him.
He had just stood up when Emily suddenly blocked the doorway. “Where are you going? Aren’t you going to start the fire? Are you going to get firewood? I’ll get it for you.”

Mayra picked up when she saw that he was calling.
“Where are you? Give me the address!”
Mayra had her blanket over her head, and her voice was muffled, as if she had been crying. Her eyes were red. “Gordon, I feel terrible. I called you just now, but you didn’t pick up. What were you doing?”

Gordon pursed his lips, worry etched on his handsome face. “I’ll get a cab over. to see you. Stay there and don’t move.”
Emily watched him leave. She wanted to call out to him, but she couldn’t bring herself to open her mouth. She was worried that Gordon had found out.
Mayra told him the address of the Barlow mansion.
She hadn’t called Anderson because she was cautious.
No matter how Anderson treated her, other people would still see her as a poor social climber.
The maids who had criticized her had been fired but… the walls had ears.
Even if she explained that she didn’t have any such intention, no one would believe her.
If she told Anderson now, it would just increase the conflict between him and Isabel.
Leaving would be the best thing to do…
Their engagement party would be held soon.
No matter how much Anderson doted on her, he wouldn’t have much energy to focus on her.

Mayra packed quickly and looked at the cab outside the window. She picked up her backpack and ran downstairs.
Just as she was about to go out, a maid stopped her. “You aren’t allowed to leave!”
