Chapter 58
Mayra’s phone rang for nearly half a minute before Anderson disconnected the call grimly. He took a photo of Mayra, who was sitting at his desk in the study.
His message was read. Her phone no longer rang, nor did any messages come
- in.
Mayra was doing her homework when she noticed Anderson fumbling with her phone at the door. Her heart skipped a beat as she tightened her grip on her pen. She tossed her pen aside and hurried over. “Andy, are you peeking at my phone again?”
Anderson held her phone up in the air. It was too late for Mayra to halt her steps, so she crashed into his chest. He staggered backward until he was leaning against the wall, his gaze darting down to her face.
“Do you have any secrets that I’m not aware of?”
Mayra frowned and blurted out, “No! Give me back for the rest of my life!”

His gaze darkened once he noticed how flustered she looked. Masking the glint in his eyes, he said gently, “Mayra, you know you can’t deceive me.”
Her hands, which were still up high in the air, lowered.
“Didn’t you see it already? Why do you even bother to ask, then?”
Infuriated, she spun around. Anderson must’ve seen the messages she sent Gordon. Gordon didn’t reply to her messages at all, so it’d only make it seem like her feelings for him were unrequited. She didn’t mind as long as Anderson refrained from going after Gordon.
Mayra was clearly mad. Gathering her books, she was just about to leave when Anderson stopped her.
He returned her phone to her. “I didn’t peek at your phone. The maid brought your phone to me earlier, and she mentioned that someone called you. I just wanted to see who it was. Since you don’t like it, I won’t mess with your phone again.”
Still dubious, Mayra asked, “Really?”

“Don’t you believe me?”
Pressing her lips together, Mayra shook her head as she stared at her phone. “I do.”
“It seems like it was a call from Gordon. Do you need to call him back?”
Her breath hitched. Feeling somehow guilty, she averted her gaze. “N–No need. I should proceed with my homework.”
The weekend assignments weren’t too hard. She had already completed her homework for other subjects except for math and physics.
Anderson wore a pair of gold–rimmed glasses as he read the bidding. documents. He chanced a glance at her, noticing that she was chewing absently on her pen cap. She had listed a few formulas on a piece of paper, yet they were scribbled over with lines.
“Can’t solve the problem? Or are you still thinking about Gordon’s call?”
“I–I’m not!” Mayra immediately snapped back to her senses. She drew her eyes shut in resignation once she discovered her scribbling. What was she doing?
She simply shifted her workbook in front of Anderson. “I’m having trouble with this problem. Teach me.”
Anderson saw right through her, yet he didn’t expose her. He taught her
patiently, and she listened. She knew how to solve this problem. However, she also realized that his approach was way easier.
He wrote a formula on her paper, one she had yet to learn in high school physics. “Remember this formula. You can apply this to a lot of physics questions in the future.”
Mayra stared at him with starstruck eyes. “Andy, you’re amazing! How do you know so much? I … I remember you were always working to support me back then. Where did you learn all this?”
Anderson tapped her forehead with the pen. “I study as well. How else do you think it’s possible for me to manage such a huge company?
“You should study hard and come help me out at the company in the future.”
Mayra shook her head. “I don’t want to. I’m thinking of studying medicine. I

“Why do you suddenly want to become a doctor?”
“It’s a secret!”
She finished her assignments quickly in just 15 minutes, only to realize it was getting late as well. It was almost midnight.
