Chapter 25 Early Debut
Fox’s words surprised Jennifer, but she quickly composed herself.
“Alright, I’ll be watching. Show me what you’ve got.”
Jennifer said, having some confidence in Fox. His confident expression made her believe he could really write something. However, being able to write and writing well are two different things.
Writing any story is easy, but writing a captivating story is challenging.
Fox wanted to make money from writing stories, which meant his level had to be high. He had only started learning about scriptwriting the day before and now was applying it, which seemed overly ambitious.
Jennifer didn’t know much about scriptwriting, but she was aware of some details.
In Hollywood, top screenwriters had developed the so–called “golden formula.“、 Following this formula could produce a very standard script. She had overheard this information when her mom was on the phone with someone.
Writing a standard story and successfully turning it into a movie wasn’t difficult if one was trained and skilled. But Fox had only studied for a day. How far could he go?
Jennifer was curious. Fox was special, and maybe he could come up with something interesting.
So Fox began typing, occasionally referencing his books. The screen filled with lines
of text.
The more he wrote, the more excited he became, his face showing a hint of fervor. However, this didn’t mean he wasn’t calm. When he was unsatisfied with a part, he would delete and rewrite it.
After a few hours, Fox finally stopped typing. Jennifer set her book aside and curiously leaned over to see what Fox had written.
Fox stretched his hands, feeling that the old computer wasn’t quite up to the task. But since he was just typing, it wasn’t a major issue. The keyboard felt stiff and slowed him down a bit. Nonetheless, he had completed part of the story–a full episode.
Honestly, the pace was slower than he had imagined. He had hoped to finish in two or three days and then transmit it. Bu turned out to be more challenging as a beginner who had to figure things out.
“This is just the first draft. I’ll need to revise it, add details, and adjust some scenes.
Fox scratched his head, but Jennifer didn’t respond. She was already engrossed in the story.
“Interesting. You’ve set Sherlock Holmes‘ story in the modern world?”
Jennifer praised, quickly skimming the basic structure. She then went back to read it carefully. She found the story quite engaging.
In fact, Fox had copied the story from his previous life, “Sherlock,” which would originally premiere in 2010. The script might have been polished by 2008, but it was now 2004, and Fox had already written it.
“Impressive, Fox. This story is fascinating. You’ve adapted cases from ‘The
Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.‘ This is great! I think it has a market and will be very popular”
Jennifer was excited, her eyes sparkling and a happy smile on her face. Normally quiet, she spoke a lot in her excitement.
“I’m glad you like it. Are you a Sherlock Holmes fan?”
Fox asked, seeing this enthusiastic expression on Jennifer for the first time.
“Of course! I reread it every year.”
Jennifer said, patting the thick book beside her.
“But there are some minor flaws in the story. I think you should tweak it a bit.”
Jennifer pointed at the computer screen, explaining to Fox.
Fox had written the story based on his memory, which wasn’t always reliable. He had added some unique elements based on his own experiences, having met many kinds of people in prison, which enriched his storytelling, especially the “criminal” characters.
“I think the killer you wrote is very realistic.”
Jennifer said, feeling a chill from reading about the murderer.
“Have you decided which company to pitch this story to?”
Jennifer asked, blinking at Fox.
“I think I should finish writing it first. This is just one episode, and it’s not very polished.”
Fox said, rubbing his chin.

“Also, setting Sherlock Holmes in the modern world, could there be… copyright issues?”
The “Sherlock Holmes” series did exist. Would there be any impact from adapting it?
“The script is good, and the story is brilliant. Any company would want it. Just sell it, and the company will handle the rest.”
Jennifer seemed knowledgeable about this
“You seem to know a lot about this.”
Fox asked, taking a deep breath and preparing to adjust the flaws Jennifer pointed
out.
“Because my mom owns a company in Hollywood. Movie scripts are common, yours seems more like a TV series, which is fine.”
but
Jennifer said, her eyes shining.
“Fox, why don’t you write more? I’ll take it home tonight and show it to my mom, Selling it to her would be better. She’s generous and will give you a lot of money.”
Jennifer said, raising her hands to indicate a large amount.
“Sure, no problem. I’ll speed up and outline the rest of the story. I’ll fill in the details later and see how it goes.”
Fox didn’t know the specifics but chose to trust Jennifer.
